BART trains to stop for one minute in Great Shakeout

All BART trains will stop for one minute at 10:21 a.m. Thursday as part of the Great California ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake preparedness event.

The one-minute stop is not a drill, but a reminder that much of the BART system is near the Hayward Fault, BART officials said.

The threat of earthquakes along the Hayward Fault spurred BART to under take a voter-approved seismic strengthening of 74 miles of track, 34 stations, and the Transbay Tube.
