A public meeting on a proposal for bike and pedestrian lanes on the Bay Bridge western span will be held by Caltrans and the Bay Area Toll Authority at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) in San Francisco. The site is the the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, 100 Van Ness Ave., 26th floor. The public is invited to learn the latest about the outlook for the new lanes. The proposal excites many walkers and cyclists, but transportation officials say they have no idea where they would get the more than half a billion dollars it would cost to build the project.
In response to public demand, the toll authority pledged in 2009 to prepare a report on the cost and outlook for the project.
