The Pleasant Hill BART station will have some unusual four-legged visitors Monday night: search and rescue dogs practicing their skills in a drill. With BART’s blessing, seven dogs from the California Rescue Dog Association will be pounding and sniffing the pavement in a training session from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
BART makes a good training site because sometimes search crews will look for a missing person with dimentia at train stations. Plus, the train stations and their noise offer a good test grounds to perform with distractions.
The dogs won’t enter trains, but they will be seen scampering up staircases and searching platforms, said Greg Slavit, a training group leader with the nonprofit rescue dog association.
