Another Monday protest against BART, but this time a counterprotest planned by riders

As BART critics plan a 5 p.m. Monday (today) protest at the Civic Center station for a third consecutive Monday, a group of riders plan a protest against the protesters. The new group called Commuters Take Back BART is frustrated by station closures triggered by protests against BART police, according to the group’s notice posted on Facebook. Ride with a skirt to bike party tonight after open house at Ashby BART bike station

What do BART and men and women bicyclists in skirts have in common? They’re partners tonight in a Berkeley doubleheader of the practical and the wacky. Cyclists are invited  from 7:30 to 8 p.m. tonight to an open house at the new bike station at the Ashby BART station.  Afterwards, cyclists are invited to head out for a “skirt” ride around Berkeley in the monthly social ride sponsored by the East Bay Bicycle Coalition. Train fest at Amtrak Martinez on Saturday, National Train Day

A family-oriented train celebration for National Train Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Amtrak station, 601 Marina Vista Ave., Martinez . Vendors will give children train-related key chains, pencils, and paper hats, and a model train display will be set up. Smog season here: call to cut driving on Spare the Air days

Is it just an employee’s child or a safety risk riding in the BART train cab?

BART and its train operators are at odds over a district edict barring the operators from bringing their sons and daughters into train cabs last Thursday during bring your child to work day.  Is this a common sense safety rule? Why did the turkeys cross the busy road?

$2 ride is free this month on AC Transit’s “holiday” bus

AC Transit is giving away free rides this month to everyone who boards a “holiday” bus that is rotated around to serve a different route each day. AC makes it a seasonal practice to decorate one bus, cover the fare box,  and waive the $2 bus fare.

Drive less, pay less with new insurance option in California
