Days after a similar event by a local quilting group, the East Bay chapter of Project Linus plans a blanket-making gathering from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Unity Church of Fremont, 47478 Cedar Blvd. in Newark.

People are welcome to bring some yarn to sew into blankets that will go to Fremont’s Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments (SAVE) and other area charities.

The nonprofit Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Southern Alameda County had a meeting over the weekend at Holy Redeemer Church in Newark.

Who knew there was enough room in Newark for two such groups?
