Board meeting gossip

fusd-sign.gifAs captivating as school board meetings are, sometimes the juiciest news come out of the side conversations that audience members have and not from anything on the agenda.

That’s what happened at last night’s Fremont school board meeting, where I learned of two additional candidates for November’s board race and that another current trustee has decided not to seek reelection.

As previously reported, current Trustee Peggy Herndon won’t be seeking reelection, but former appointed board member Bryan Gebhardt will be running.

Last night, I ran into Desrie Campbell, a Fremont Ed Foundation board member, and Lily Mei of the Fremont Council PTA. Both women said they plan to run. (I hope to do a story on the two latest candidates next week.)

Also, while current board President Ivy Wu hasn’t decided if she’ll run again, Trustee Nina Moore has announced that she won’t seek a third term. Apparently her decision has been known by community members for some time, but I didn’t find out until last night. It’s quite embarrassing that the reporter is the last to know.

That said, if you know of anyone else who is running — or even just thinking about it — please drop me a note on this blog or by e-mailing me at ltat@bayareanewsgroup.com. Thanks.

    Linh,
I expected more from you. You are one of my favorite reporters. Why have you allowed this blog to replace legitimate reporting?

Reporting gossip in a blog will never replace objective investigative reporting. Why has the Argus been reduced to this? Please don’t cave in to the pathetic whims that your colleagues Matt and Todd have succumb to. Get the real story. Do the work. Ask the questions. I don’t want to read about what you “think” is going on in the City…and I definitely don’t want to read the completely unsubstantiated “hoo haw” that Todd and Matt write in these blogs. I want to know the facts…the real deal.

“So-and-so thinks that so-and-so may be running for school board. And whats-his-name says that this woman is thinking about running for council.”

Is this a reputable newspaper, or the LADIES Restroom?!?

Stop the insanity. No more substituting gossip for factual news reporting.

Please consider this friendly advice before you post another entry.

I hope Linh reports more objectively in the newspaper with all the factual information. People should take a hard look before voting for candidates coming out of Fremont Education Foundation. This is a hatchery for School Board candidates just like the Planning Commission for City Council candidates. Fremont Education Foundation used to be non-political for a long time but no longer. They have their own agenda of promoting candidates in the interests of developers who are their main sponsors. Just look at Nina Moore, Peggy Herndon and Lara York. They are from the Fremont Education Foundation and they vote as a bloc on most of the issues. Since Nina and Peggy are leaving office, Lara is looking for bloc support.
