Go Kevin Tan of Fremont. He was named to the U.S. gymnastics squad for the summer games in Beijing. For the merc’s story, click here.

The Olympics is probably the only tie that binds Fremont and my hometown of Great Neck, NY. Both cities produced gold medal figure skaters: Kristi Yamaguchi in 1992 and Sarah Hughes in 2002. For some reason most people don’t remember Sarah’s gold medal performance. It was awesome.

To twist the words of Michelle Obama, it was the first time I was proud to be from Great Neck.
