  1. Charlotte Allen Says:

It’s too bad that our local officials preferred the Ball Park Village to bringing Prius manufacturing to Fremont. I wonder if anyone in City government did an economic analysis of which option would be of greater economic benefit to Fremont. My guess is that Prius manufacturing would win hands down.

No To The BALL PARK VILLAGE!!!!!!

  3. Jon Simon Says:

Was there ever a real possibility of the Prius coming here? I doubt it.

  4. Coyote Bill Says:

This is our City Councils finest hour. Yes, there was a good possibility of bringing Prius to Fremont. Nummi is a truck plant (Tacoma)and no one is buying trucks, so.
The Mayor and City Council should be held accountable.
It is time for a change in Nov. Elections

  5. Fremont resident Says:

Nummi already makes small cars and trucks (Corolla, Tacoma, Vibe). The other plants were making, or were planned to make, larger cars and trucks (Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia).

It makes sense that Toyota would reshuffle the production at those plants rather than than mess with Nummi’s product mix. I doubt Fremont had any say in the decision.

  6. marty Says:

Is the Prius to cars what Whole Food’s is to grocery? Who cares what vehicle is popping off the production lines?

  7. Lisa Says:

Marty you are missing the point. If the Prius was to be manufactured in Fremont that would equal more jobs and more money to our city.

Is there unused capacity at Nummi? Can they make more of the small cars they already make? Can they add Prius production without cutting Corolla, Vibe, and Tacoma production? Are sales of Nummi’s current models going up or down?

Even if we can answer those questions, what could Fremont have done to change the outcome?
