Councilmember What’s her name?
By Matt Artz
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 at 12:21 pm in City Council Election, Fremont.
Trisha Tahmasbi has made a name for herself in Fremont these past few years. She’s not yet 30, but is already a top candidate for City Council, an Ohlone College board member and the right-hand woman for Assemblymember Alberto Torrico and Fremont Councilman Bob Wieckowski, who have both endorsed her for council.
Tahmasbi, who works for Torrico, is also working on Wieckowski’s campaign. In campaign finance statements submitted last month, Wieckowski lists paying her more than $2,500 for campaign work, but misspells her name. He (or his treasurer, also named Wieckowski) lists her as Trisha TahmaSei. I guess if she wins, Wieckowski won’t have the most frequently misspelled name on the council.

Wow, I really dislike that a person who lives and breahtes politics will try to run our city? Comments on this blog indicate she’s only lived in Fremont a year. It’s nice to see young people who are ambitious but I dislike that she’s using Fremont as her stepping stone for higher office.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Not sure how long Trisha has been in town, but it’s definitely been more than a year. She’s been on the Ohlone board since April, 2007.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Wonder, how Argus comments that Trisha has a good shot at City Council seat. How come Argus reporters give positive reviews about candidates with no track record of public service other than being on the payroll of career politicians and 1-year resident. Time for Fremont residents to reject absurd opinions of Argus reporters and elect independent candidates other than the current crop of politicians like bob Wieckowski, Trisha, Suzanne Chan, Steve Cho, Bob Wasserman and Gus Morrison.
I urge Argus reporters to be more objective in reporting opinions about candidates based on current issues concerning Fremont other than being biased towards career politicians. Or else, More Fremont residents will cancel Argus subscription.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Hey Mr Z.
Saying that Trisha has a good shot at the council seat isn’t tantamount to saying she’d be a good council member or that she has earned it. It just acknowledges that she has Alberto Torrico’s support, which means she’s going to have a lot of establishment backing and money. If you have those two things, you’ve got a good shot at winning whether you’re a wunderkid or a total putz.
August 5th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
She has lived in Fremont over four years now. Has enormous support from all the way down to the top. I agree with Matt. Oh and Sue also has a good start being backed by Wasserman and a millionaire unnamed of.
Another politician: would you like to run for a local office since you seem not to want another “person who lives and breahtes politics?”
August 6th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Congrat’s are in order for Mr. Zinger. Thank you for making sense but above all seeing through the fog of words used in the Argus and sometimes in this forum. Your statement is simple, honest, and makes complete sense. Integrity in print is something I have not seen in a long time and to ask that of a local paper is the right thing to do. After educating myself on Trisha I dont care how long she has lived here, after privilege I don’t see anything different.

Interesting, you don’t mention Weicowski - come on it’s a perfect trifecta - Weicowski + Trisha + Turrico. Let’s see, Wasserman was a police chief who protected the city of Fremont. What did Turrico and Weicowski do before office? They are of the most esteemed profession - LAWYERS AND POLITICANS. Trisha is THE ESTABLISHMENT candidate - WITHOUT ties to the community, without significant roles within local community groups, SHE WAS APPOINTED TO OHLONE BOARD. Now go ahead and present me with your list of community activities. Interesting = Trisha.
August 7th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Another politician. Let me do some more research on her then I’ll come back. Good job so far you’ve done your homework properly. Now I’ll go do my own research. One error in your comment though, wait actually two no more than that:
1) Interesting does not equal to Trisha (do your math properly-if I were her then she’d still be in college)
2) She does have ties to the community
3) Trisha is ‘the Establishment candidate’- no it’s Established (not ‘ment’ on the end of it)
–You never answered my question, you have until Friday maybe you should run since you’re not satisfied with any of the candidates? Did you ever think to youreself one of the reasons why politicians are involved in politics? Well maybe because as a kid they chose to major in something involved with politics to serve their community. I’m still in college and all the counselors I speak to reminds us to go into a field of our interest. The above people you mentioned, well apparently their interest lies within politics to do some good, to make a difference. But hey you do bring up a good point….kind of….
=)

Sue Chan is a puppet candidate for Mayor Wasserman. She has only been involved in the city since she was appointed to the planning commission by our mayor three years ago. Not to mention that Sue Chan’s campaign is being fully funded by our former assemblymember and millionaire developer John Dutra, so guess whose best interest she has at heart. John Dutra has a financial stake in the A’s coming to Fremont. It’s no wonder John is involving himself in local Fremont campaigns. So what makes Sue Chan so qualified? If any of you had ever tuned into a Planning Commission Meeting, you would see that Sue Chan has the IQ of a peanut (at best)…Come on, People! Wake up! You guys are way off! Check out Sue Chan’s campaign kickoff, if you can, the host committee is made up of local developers, many of who have projects currently before the council. I recently heard Trisha Tahmasbi took a pledge not to accept money from developers. She’ll be an independent candidate, and she’s got my vote. I’m a citizen who does my homework before I cast any votes. I suggest you do the same!
August 7th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
C’mon People, get real.
It seems that everywhere in America, from coast to coast, a renewed spirit of civic engagement has caught fire. People are excited about this November’s election. Record turnout everywhere you turn. More young voters involved than ever before in every state in the country. Everywhere - people want new, fresh ideas.
Everywhere but Fremont. For those that are criticizing Trisha - get a clue. She is a young lady that has dedicated the past several years to providing a public service and to serving the residents of Fremont and the rest of the tri-city area. It seems that she views public service, first as an Ohlone College Board member, and now as a candidate for city council, as a privilege, and not a right.
Let’s give all the candidates the benefit of the doubt and let them present their ideas and vision for Fremont.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
I’m glad to see there are so many candidates running. Hopefully someone can make some sense out of what is going on at City Hall.
I’m not sure where Trisha stands, or any of the other candidates, but let me tell you something, no way I support Sue Chan.
I went on her website, and talk about an establishment candidate - endorsements include Bob Wasserman, John Dutra (career politician and rich developer to boot) and a bunch of termed out old time Fremont folks. It also looks like nearly every chinese person that lives in Fremont has endorsed her.
Based on her record on the Planning Commission - - in which she never saw a development she didn’t like - - and the big spending for Fremont’s ONE YEAR party to celebrate its “birthday” which Sue CHAIRED - no way I would trust her to run this city. I’m sure she will get a lot of “support” from developers whose projects she “supported”.
August 7th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Wow, I have never seen so many folks, have so many opinions. Where do you find out about so much stuff. I presume, there is a distinct authority that you all check with on who does what and is involved with what community organizations. From what I read and have researched Trisha seems to have served the district through the Assembly members office for a number of years. I am sure she has worked on a variety of constituent issues. medical benefits, missing Social Security checks, missing military benefits, etc. That certainly qualifies as experience. Also, the politics of today calls for a new sort of candidate. It appears she has the background and the commitment to serve. Well good thing elections aren’t won on blogs-Too many opinions and very little substance. Trisha, I dont know you, but go win one. The Fremont voters will eventually decide! And I think we have some pretty bright voters. Go connect.
August 8th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Hey “Interesting” and “Matt”…open your eyes. Sue Chan is a Developer’s dream come true. Her campaign will be funded entirely by developer money…not to mention the millionaire developer (and wanna be career politician) that is leading her campaign - John Dutra. Sue Chan will be completely beholden to Developers. And someone should ask the idiot why she’s taking money from developers that have projects before the council and planning commission?!? Talk about a conflict of interest!!! Now, if that doesn’t make her the “establishment” candidate…I don’t know what does. What’s wrong with you people? Why doesn’t someone corner John Dutra and ask him what his ties are to the A’s? Hey Matt Artz…there’s a story for you. How about doing your job…? And then ask him why he’s in the business of supporting brainless candidates who have nothing more to offer than a smile. (Oh yeah, because he just wants a puppet that he can control…good thinking, Mr. Dutra).
If what you say is true, “Frustrated”…and there are some candidates refusing to take developer money…I applaud them.

Do your research people. Sue was on the hospital foundation for years before planning comission. She was an active member of local scholarship programs, she was in leadership of community health care events for the uninsured. This was for 20 years before she became a planning comissioner. Sue has been apart of the community that frankly the city hasnt focused on, so she brings in a fresh perspective. You focus on three of almost 100 videos. There are tons of everyday Fremont residents saying they LOVE Sue. In a year of hope and change, you are negative. It’s interesting that supporters of Trisha are so negative. There is no place for that in Fremont, as evidenced by Sue’s supporters, she brings enery, positivity and love of her city to the table. Count me in for that Fremont

Shame on all of you.
I know Trisha Tahmasbi personally. I’m excited to hear she’s running, and even want to help her campaign. Why would you bloggers speculate on Trisha’s interest in running…if you met her in person you would all sing a different tune. She’s one of the nicest people I know.
Among many other things, Trisha helps to run a local legislative internship program in Fremont, CA. I am a student that participated in that internship program. I can tell you all that she dedicates every last second she has to this community, and to public service…and she encourages each of us students and interns to do the same.
Not only did she inspire me by serving as a mentor and a role model, she went out of her way to go the extra mile with me. She spent alot of weekends helping me fill out my college applications and helped me with the writing of my statements, because my parents never went to college and they didn’t know what to do. She helped me apply for financial aide. She even took me to lunch on her day off, when I had a personal problem and didn’t know what to do. She didn’t have to do any of those things. They weren’t her job. She did them because she cared about my success.
I haven’t met very many people outside of school willing to give up their personal time to really help students like me.
I’m glad to hear shes running because its a good thing to have younger people become involved in politics and public service. Everyone in government is older and doesn’t understand what challenges younger people face. It’s different now than it used to be. People like you (you bloggers) always say you want younger people to step up and become involved. But then when they do, you criticize them on lack of experience and question the genuine nature of their intent. It doesn’t say anywhere that you have to live in a city your whole life to run for council, and it doesn’t say that you have to be a 50 year old to understand the issues that our community faces. Shame on you all.
The other candidates are older and they don’t offer anything new. Trisha is the future of this city.
Trisha has my family’s vote because she works hard and cares about the community. Anyone who is thinking about writing another negative post about her should pick up the phone and talk to her first. Or go see her in person. You will leave feeling the same way that I do.
Thanks for listening.

Trisha is amazing and i tink she will bring great ideas to the board as a young mind.

The two candidates I feel, running for city council, that will work for the people, and not special interests are Charles Bartlett and Alan Stirling. I believe they’ll be fiscally responsible, and don’t approve of explosive growth in Fremont, but believe in the quality of life, breathing room, and not to have citizens stacked on top of each other like sardines, by overdevelopment.
I believe Charles Bartlett, and Alan Stirling each will do an outstanding job as councilmen.

Infill is a great thing, especially near public transit, and quadruply especially when it’s a mixture of retail, office, and housing. Keep our hills green and make Fremont the town where more people can walk to work and shop.
