I was at Gari Browning’s State of Ohlone College address today. It was good and so was the coffee. But the croissants were hella stale.
Browning announced that Ohlone’s recently-opened Newark campus has been certified LEED Platinum, which is the highest environmental distinction a building can get. According to Ohlone, it is the only LEED Platinum campus in the country.

Congrats to the people at Ohlone College that made this happen.
It was not the local politicians, although you can bet that they are lining up to take credit!

Hmmm, I remember over the past four or five years quite a few local politicians speaking out on this topic and most of them very supportive of it. By-the-way, do you count the members of the Ohlone board as local politicians? How about them many people (myself included) who served on the bond oversight committee?
Don’t you remember the big flap when the college wanted to encumber (commit) a lot of money in order to lock in prices on solar panels? That turns out to have been an enormous money saver and absolutely the right thing to do.

Congratulation to Doug Treadway and the other leaders of Ohlone College for their vision. Thanks to the bond oversight committee, Ohlone Board of Trustees and local politicians for coming together in making this vision a success.
So no it wasn’t just “Ohlone people,” that made this happen.
