Santa Clara’s Measure B is still too close to call. The sales tax hike would provide about $42 million a year to operate future BART train service to Santa Clara. It would also guarantee the Valley Transportation Authority’s contribution to the Warm Springs project, although city leaders had seemed hopeful that they could still get the funding if the measure fails.
Meanwhile, the city is preparing pay BART $4.8 million to complete a preliminary design for the proposed Irvington BART Station. That station, if it ever is built, is still many years down the road. Fremont’s redevelopment agency would have to pay for it, and the agency is a little short of cash, although the city is still working on increasing its funding cap.
