Someone pointed this out to me a few weeks ago, but I had forgotten about it. Barack Obama named a team of 24 “big city” mayors to help with his economic recovery program. Representing from the Bay Area are Gavin Newsom, Ron Dellums, and Dave Smith of Newark.

I’m going to call Smith tomorrow to find out about his appointment and his former employer which I think has laid off  more than 80 percent of its workforce.

Smiths been elected mayor 16 times, right? Who’s his former employer, Essenay studios?

  2. Gus Morrison Says:

I am sure the members of the group are from the US Conference of Mayors, consisting of cities larger than 30,000 people. Dave has been an elected trustee of the conference for many years and is highly respected within the conference.
