A’s Wolff says odds of Pacific Commons ballpark village “very low”

The SF Business Times wrote a story about the A’s, which isn’t very different from the one I wrote a few weeks ago.

Here is an excerpt:

The A’s have not abandoned plans for the original site. But A’s owner Lew Wolff said odds of building a stadium there are now “very low.” In addition to transportation problems at the original site, the team has not been able to reach an agreement with the site’s main landowner, Prologis, a real estate investment trust which operates a nearby shopping center. Some of the tenants of the shopping center oppose an A’s stadium, saying it would lead to traffic headaches for existing stores.

OK, I have to note that the exerpt shown here is a bit misleading. Saying in the excerpt that the A’s have abandoned their “original site” could lead people to believe that they have abandoned their plans to build in Fremont. Not so – the full article in the SF Business Times says that they are merely re-directing their energies toward the Warm Springs site, and still planning on putting residential development at the Pacific Commons site. This is a distinction without a difference – they’re still targeting Fremont, and everyone who believes that this enterprise has no place in our town should attend the meeting at Wiebel Elementary on Thursday 2/5 at 6:30 p.m.
