Washington Boulevard Bridge about to open

No more detours on Washington Boulevard. The grand opening of the new Washington Boulevard Bridge has been scheduled for April 2. The 250-foot bridge is just about ready for traffic, but there will still be road work widening Osgood and Driscoll roads and connecting  Driscoll to Washington. The bridge will be for motorists, while trains roll below.

The entire projet, which is a big part of getting BART to Warm Springs, is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

  1. April 2? That’s like…next Thursday right? We live in the area that receives the COF update notices about the grade separation and its progress. To date we have received no news about it’s opening or traffic delays and re-routing, which needs to occur to complete the intersection. I have passed the new Washington Blvd. overpass several times this week and by all appearances the pavement wasn’t in place. This will be a busy week, and weekend, to meet that grand opening date!

  2. It looks to me like they are opening the Washington Blvd bridge first for traffic going straight through the intersection without turning.

  3. “The bridge will be for motorists”

Um, and cyclists and pedestrians. It ain’t a freeway.

I drive through there daily. The bridge itself is now paved and striped, but they’ve got a lot of grading and paving to do at each end.

    According to http://www.fremontgradesep.com/

“The new Washington Boulevard Bridge over-crossing and elevated section of Osgood Road will open to traffic on April 6, 2009, following a small event to mark the new bridge opening on April 2. In order to shift traffic onto the new elevated roadways, continuous construction work and associated traffic restrictions will be necessary up to 24 hours a day from 6:00 PM, Friday, April 3 through 6:00 AM, Monday, April 6.”
