I understand if the experienced cops in Oakland are paid 100k or higher. Because every day is like going to war, you dont know if you will return home safely. But Fremont for heavensakes!! I am sure they are working, but I dont believe they deserve this kind of money.

Having said that cops, firefighters do take risks more than people with a desk job. So its justified to pay them more. But fremont cops dont deserve their pay, since their risk is much lower than a oakland or berkley cop.

I don’t know a whole lot of people in private industry that get raises just for showing up and doing their jobs every day regardless of the economic climate either where they work or in the economy as a whole.

I’m sure it’s going to be a real sacrifice to stay at over $100,000 a year and not get a raise this year.

Like Sonueu said, most of private industry is happy just to HAVE a job and aren’t so entitled as to think that we’ll “take one for the team” and “give up” our raises this year.

I don’t think that most of the police and firefighters live in Fremont, so they don’t have to see and deal with the cuts to other services that the rest of us do.

To all my friends serving in police and fire please forgive me for saying so, but isn’t it odd that the mayor is a past police chief – and that the most recent past chair of the Planning Commission is a past fire chief?

And, isn’t it odder still – that the mayor worked for the City Manager for awhile as the police chief in Tracy?

No big deal – but odd.

“Give up” salary increase ????? My family in the prirvate secotr are receiving PAY CUTS – - – - – IF THEY HAVE A JOB AT ALL ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Many people with equal skill and education are glad to do these job.

There was a time when both unions gave up salary increases to pay the new cost of the state public safety retirement program as part of the contract negotiations. This is probably that period of time.
