Post Offices

I wrote a longer story about potential post office closures today. I had to include the two post offices in Hayward, so I had to kill a couple of quotes about Niles. Sorry to Connie Stengl and the folks at Not Just Quiltz.

I also found out too late that not only is the Mission San Jose branch older than California, but it still has its own stamp, if you request it. All the other ones around here say “Oakland” apparently.

Anyway, the postal service should know what’s getting axed by in October.

Anyone who wants to give Pete Stark a piece of their mind about this, this link has been going around: <https://forms.house.gov/stark/webforms/contact.htm>

Pete Stark is having a Town Meeting Saturday 8/15 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Fremont Senior Center.

He’s also having Telephone Town Meetings throughout the month – sign up at http://www.stark.house.gov clicking on
“Telephone Town Hall” button at the right.

You can email him direct at petemail@mail.house.gov

Sue Chan said his office is requesting that letters of concern regarding the possible closure of the Mission San Jose and Niles post offices be sent to his Fremont office.

    That address is:

39300 Civic Center Drive, Suite 220,
    Fremont 94538

Thanks, Andrew. Do you know if Stark’s Town Meeting will be about the Post Office issue only or any issues that come up? I’m already worried about a local performance of the recent disruptions of other Town Halls that I’m seeing on TV. I’d like to think that Fremont residents have better sense and better manners, but we’ll see.
