Fremont's latest gang problems seem like they are being hushed up. Last Sunday around 2:00 Am at the West Pickering Place apartments there was a gang type shooting. Very little was reported in the papers even though a young man was shot six times. He somehow survived the shooting and somehow was able to return fire with his own(most likely nonregestered)handgun. After the shooting stopped he was wisked away to a hospital in Castro Valley and the word is he used an alias to get admitted there. The Argus reported that two blackmen were the perpetrators. There are also reports that another apartment in the same area was ramsacked by gang members the week before. A source at Fremonts adult school said that he overheard two youths taking about the shooting incident. They talked about rival gangs vying for the right to sell drugs in that area. This problem is getting bigger by the day and Fremont's drug task force appears to be losing the battle. The young man that was shot six times may be envolved more deeply than the investigating officers were led to believe. We as citizens must wake up and band together to get rid of this kind of B.S. before it is too late. We must also hold our local drug task force accountable when they aren't fixing the problem.
