Niles Post Office

The U.S. Postal Service still doesn’t have figures on whether the Niles Post Office was profitable last year. At last night’s meeting all they could say was that it took in about $408,000, which wasn’t enough for the people in attendance.
Turns out that the post offices in Hayward and Mission San Jose were taken off the endangered list last month. Oops. I asked the postal service to provide revenue figures for those post offices to compare it to Niles.
Niles is one of less than 100 post offices still on the list for potential closures. It is one of five up for closure in the Bay Division, which stretches from Napa to King City, but doesn’t include SF and San Mateo Counties.
All five of the at-risk post offices are in the East Bay. Two are in Oakland and the others are in Berkeley, Richmond, and of course, Niles.
