A lot of robberies/burglaries yesterday. All in formation is from the police. No reporting on my part.
A woman putting her groceries into her car at Food Maxx was approached my a man who wanted to use her cell phone. The guy then knocked her to the ground and tried to steal her purse. When she struggled, he punched her several times in the mouth, before fleeing in a white Toyota four-door car driven by a heavyset Hispanic woman.
The next robbery was at a jewelery store on Grimmer Boulevard. A couple of dudes with guns, one being an assault rifle entered the store with ski masks covering their faces. They tied up the victims and left with about $1,300 in cash. I’m guessing we’ll have more on this one soon.
Shortly thereafter, officers were dispatched to Allegro Music where they arrested a 19-year-old and two juvys, who were found with three stolen guitars, which might have been lifted from a Union City store.
Last, but not least two males in their early 20s stole snowboards from REI. An REI employee witnessed the theft and called police, who followed the burglars to Blacow and Mowry, where they arrested the duo and recovered the snowboards.

Matt, do you know the time of the Food Maxx assault?
I was there last night and saw some ghetto activity. Two ladies were fighting by a car (seemed like a white four door), and some black guy trying to sell a watch. It seemed out of character for that parking lot.

no time was given. It was case no. 36, which means it was probably late afternoon/early evening.

I shop at the Food Maxx in Newark. Best one yet was the day I was turning from Argonaut onto Walnut, heading towards the Food Maxx driveway. A young Hispanic guy was running and attempting to push a shopping cart down the side of the No. 2 lane towards me. Three Food Maxx employees were chasing him. Its hard to run with a shopping cart. He had a 24 pack of Corona in the cart. He shoved it off to the side and took off across the road. They gave up the chase and recovered the beer.

“Three Food Maxx employees were chasing him.”
There’s no way I’d chase a lifter if I worked in retail. I wonder if they’re expected to?

Maybe they were just trying to give him his change.

The three were probably trying to get the hell off the clock and drink some beer.
