For the past 20 minutes people have been telling council members how great a person and tow truck company operator Fremont has had in Walt White.
White hasn’t died. But his company, Mission Pass Tow, poised to lose a lucrative contract with the Fremont Police Department — a contract he’s had for more than a quarter century and one that constitutes most of his work.
There are more than 70 people here — at 10:44 p.m. — urging the council to overrule the police department and give White the towing contract. We’ll see what happens.
11:55 p.m. UPDATE: Nothing happened. Council will revisit issue next week. White’s supporters argued that the police department’s process for selecting its tow companies was flawed. The department argued that the three companies they picked best met their needs. This is a first because in previous years only three companies, including White’s applied, for the three contracts so there was never any competition.
