I didn’t get a chance to talk to Newark PD before writing the red light camera story. But I did talk to them yesterday, and they’re very happy with their system and they might sign an extension with Redflex even before their initial contract expires in a couple of years.
Newark’s stats are very similar to Fremont’s.
Three of Newark’s five intersection approaches with cameras caught more than 3,000 potential violations last year.
The big cash cows were Southbound Newark Boulevard heading to Jarvis and two approaches at the intersection of Mowry and Cedar.
An approach at Cherry and Mowry barley nabbed anyone, nor did a second approach at Newark and Jarvis.
