I dreamed a dream that I was Jean Valjean

If you thumb through my CDs and even some old cassette tapes, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that I’m a lesbian from the Ozarks. But among my collection of 90s feminist folk singers and classic country icons (RIP Waylon Jennings), I do have one Broadway musical soundtrack: Les Miserables.

It’s been a long time since I saw Les Mis on the Great White Way, but I remember it being much better than the Pirates of Penzance, The Scarlet Pimpernel, or Starlight Express.

It was good enough to shell out some dough for the soundtrack and it’s good enough to plug Starstruck Theater’s performance of the musical starting this weekend and running through mid-August at Ohlone’s Smith Center.
