Fremont School Board Meeting / Sex Ed Committee

I’m trying to keep tabs on tonight’s school board meeting since for the time being we’re without a full-time schools reporter.

I missed the discussion/presentation about Patterson Ranch, but I did catch the vote on appointments to the sometimes contentious Health and Sex Advisory Committee.

I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on this stuff, but I do know that the district has been dinged in the past for failing to meet state standards in sex education.

This commitee makes recommendations on curriculum and materials in Fremont sex ed classes.

The board made 14 appointments. Below is a list of who parents and community members who made the cut:

5 votes
Elizabeth Champion (parent)
Dianne Jones (parent) — She told the board she’s dismayed that her fifth grade daughter learns less about the birds and bees than she did 30 years ago.
Livia Quan (parent)
Kathy Velasco (parent)
Kathleen Walter (Parent)
Anne Damron (community)
Susan O’Neil (community)

Four votes
Kelleen Bush (parent)
Nadine Camara (parent) (one-year)
Catherine Critchfield (parent) (one year)
Catherine Layden (community)

Three votes
Lucienne Bouvier (parent)
Catherine Norman (Community)
Carol Zilli (Community)

I don’t know which committee members are more conservative when it comes to hanky panky.  But I do know that the more conservative board members are Larry Sweeney, Ivy Wu and Lily Mei. They all voted for Zilli and Norman — catapulting them onto the committee.

The two more liberal board members Brian Gephardt and Lara York  voted for Leslie Gupta and Cynthia Fong, but couldn’t get a key third vote for either candidate. Sweeney, Gephardt and York voted for Lucienne Bouvier.

Interesting that there is not a single male on that list…

Joel, Not a single male applied. Maybe the committee post should include a free Maxim subscription.

Good for Ivy, Lily, and Larry! Kids learn all they need to learn about sex from the internet anyway. And if they have emotional concerns let em bring it up with their parents so they can be told to abstain.

Now if you’ll excuse me my girlfriend just sexted me so i’m about to go have unprotected sex with her. No worries… she can’t get HIV cause she’s on her period.

Hey, lets not stick out necks out and do what we were elected to do. Lets form a committee and let them decide, then we will not catch the parents flak. We can blame the committee.
The Fremont Unified School Board Members are COWARDS,
