From the cops:
Another incident at a 7-11. This time the victim gets stabbed in the stomach outside the convenience store on Delaware Drive in the Irvington district. Victim is able to ride home on his motorcycle and is later taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
From television news:
Click here for KPIX’s coverage of Doug Tinney’s tram idea. The anchorman doesn’t think it would be much of an attraction.

Matt any news on the fire around Cushing Parkway? The air was filled with smoke going up Mission Blvd.
September 8th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
The fire around Cushing Parkway was a controlled burn by U.S. Fish and Wildlife. The agency said the burn was to kill non native grasses and allow native grasses to sprout. Also, limit wildfire danger. Hoping to get some photos to post later this afternoon.

Thanks Matt

Way to go KPIX with the super judgmental reporting. The young reporter on the ground was fine, covered a few different views, but the anchor was borderline… mean.
September 8th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Andrew, the morning news reran the report from last night. At the end John Kessler basically said “why would anyone want to go up there?” and Sydnie Kohara to paraphrase, said, “let ‘em walk. It’s healthier.” I sent them both polite emails to which they did respond with positive comments. I guess anchors just feel obligated to have something to say. I know we have one audacious view from up there. Maybe those TV anchors need to come down and check it out for themselves. Ken Bastida has not yet responded to my email.

Doug, I’m sorry for the belittling response from KPIX. But, remember that the broadcast may have been effected by the fact that the news for the last few days has been dominated by an irrelevant pastor with a shitty mustache and less parishioners than beers in a case. If I knew that I could rule the national news cycle for 72 hours with such paltry prerequisites, I would have grabbed someone from the Florence and threatened to burn images of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him.. I’m only kidding… please don’t behead me).
I am confident that Bastida’s response is more a reflection on his ignorant opinion of Fremont that the value of your proposal, which to be clear I don’t support.
September 9th, 2010 at 8:50 am
People with itty bitty brains are the ones belittleing people with idea’s, concepts, dreams.
Sounds like our present city council and mayor
September 9th, 2010 at 8:52 am
I watched this video again. Bastida appears very condescending, and the comment you report by John Kessler could be insulting if you take great pride in Fremont and are sensitive to people belittling it (I am not). But this is a nice sample of what the greater bay area thinks of Fremont, and it’s not entirely out of their ignorance.
Fremont goes out of it’s way to be boring. What it does have to offer is beneath the cracks and sometimes hard to find. And we don’t help by offering no real venues for entertainment – theaters, sports, music, art etc.
And from the perspective of an outsider, we’re the city who kicked an MLB team out of town to make room for a tram ride. I’d be shaking my head too if I didn’t live here and know better.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:14 am
Marty, I knew when I floated this idea it would draw some controversy. To be expected. Like the old saying goes, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
I do believe I have done the correct thing in presenting it to Fremont residents so they could voice their opinion. And possibly, there is still room, as you put it, for other entertainment venues in Fremont. Bottom line, I hope other people will step forward and present ideas that will make you proud to live here. My intention was to stimulate thought and dialogue.

Mary said ” we’re the city who kicked an MLB team out of town to make room for a tram ride”
I didn’t realize a baseball stadium was proposed to be on the hillside.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Doug, you represented Fremont well during the interview. I didn’t mean to seem as if I was ashamed of your interview or this idea. It’s good proposal, just not right for me.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:39 am
Thanks Marty. For everyone’s perusal here are the replies I received from the KPIX anchors regarding their remarks.
“Thanks for the email. I prefaced my comments last night by saying, “Fremont is a beautiful city…. that part of the bay area is beautiful… it’s one of the most beautiful parts of the bay area.”
I’ve hiked to the top of Fremont peak and I’m really familiar with the area. It’s interesting… but not specifically outstanding to the point that it compares with other CA tram locations. Squaw Valley… Palm Springs… Heavenly Valley etc. I guess I don’t see the unique quality of those sites reflected in a fairly common location like Mission Peak. But I compliment you on your vision.”
Ken Batida
“There are NO nutty ideas.. you may be on to something.. if you don’t dream, life can be a real burden.
Thank you for watching.. and keep those “crazy” thoughts coming.”
John Kessler
“If this gets more people out to enjoy the beautiful foothills of the East Bay – great.
I’m a resident of the East Bay and see Mt. Diablo every day – lucky me.
Glad to have you as a viewer!”
Sydnie Kohara

A tram operated by bikini baristas. That’s the sizzle needed to sell the project.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Great, they’ll call it “Sneak a Peak” and have a half-mile high club…
September 9th, 2010 at 6:59 pm
Let’s get this straight. The itty bitty brains belong to those who kicked Major League Baseball out of town to plant a lemon orchard. Thanks for saving us Vinnie! Your next stop Fremont California … welcome to the twilight zone!
September 9th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Finally, we as a community are onto something.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
To Charlie C.
If you are a resident of Fremont, keep electing the same people so that we can get the same all the year ie increase in burglaries, potholed roads and giving freebies to developers at the cost of tax-payer residents.
If you are not a resident of Fremont but a shrill for developers, take your rants to somewhere where you belong.
September 10th, 2010 at 11:11 am
It’s shill, not shrill.
I’m going to extend Zinger’s call above to ‘go somewhere else’ to all residents of Newark, regardless of anything other than the fact that you live in Newark.
September 10th, 2010 at 6:53 pm
Hey Matt, I live in Fremont … so what? Are the dainty Ms. McDonald and Vinnie “ Lemon” Bacon a the solution to the same people you oppose? Hey Marty, all the residents of Newark really care about is recruiting some more of Fremonts best high school athletes to win them another state championship. Your next exit is Thorton Ave…welcome to the twilight zone!
September 11th, 2010 at 9:43 am
If someone is going to oppose Vinnie and Kathy, let it be Charley, if He is typical of the opposition, then they have no worries. People like Charley do not vote.
They are ignorant as you can tell by there rants.
Charely have you got a high school diploma?
Vinnie has a Masters Degree in City Planning and a Masters is Traffic Engineering.
What do you have to offer Charley besides sophmoric rants?
September 11th, 2010 at 1:05 pm
Oh my! If you don’t vote for Vinnie and Kathy you are “ignorant” and lacking a high school diploma!
The only thing missing is for Vinnie to come along and thank you for slinging these insults.
THIS is why I roll my eyes when you hypocrites cry foul. Enjoy your weekend, and hope these insults don’t end up on a mailer with Vinton’s full support. I think it would help for voters to know exactly who is supporting these candidates, and what they really think of those who disagree with them.
September 11th, 2010 at 2:52 pm
I agree marty, who are Vinnies backers
Developers…….. NO
Real Estate Developers……NO
How about grass roots, people that are tired of the good old boys running Fremont.
You are obviously a insider, one of the good old Boys trying to protect your candy store.
Enough is enough, you will see that the voters of Fremont will take back our city…… one vote at a time!
September 11th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Caliguy, you have already said enough. Thanks.
September 14th, 2010 at 6:57 pm
Hey Calguy, thanks for your endorsement but how do you know I’m not already on the City Council and how the heck did you know I run a candy store?
Sorry to inform you that unlike youself I did graduate from college.
FYI… this weekend, live in Niles, Vinne Bacon will be performing the Peter, Paul & Mary hit “Lemon Tree” and for an encore Kathy McDonald will perform her daintiest version of the Rolling Stones hit “Street Fighting Gal” in appreciation to all the ignoramuses that killed MLB coming to Fremont.
Power to the people!
