The Asian Pacific Islanders of America organized a Forum of Candidates for Fremont City council. I was the last
person in the closing statement and I Said that ” I will, if elected will complete my term of office for full 4 years and other candidates should also do the same and should not run for 2012 Mayor and start working for donations by ignoring the peoples business from January.
I read from Anu’s website http://www.anu4fremont.com in which she stated on the left hand side:-
” Anu is one three active Indian American in Bay area politics. She is well posed to run for Mayoral campaign in 2012. Which will make her the first Indian
    American woman to become mayor.”.
On this she became very ferociously came running towards me and said ” you are a liar and there is no such thing on my website. I showed her the copy and told her to use her Iphone and to see for herself and show it to the audience to know is a liar or wait to see from other phone or Blackberry.
She quickly ran away. The audience with their own eyes saw the posting. When I came home after some time, went to her website she removed it.
Look at her website pictures, it seems she like contesting for MISS.INDIA with cross of the Indian flag. She should know she is in America and running for an important very sober office to serve the people. The soul of Mahatma Gandhi may be feeling uncomfortable. May god bless the people of Fremont.

The Asian American Pacific Islanders hosted a Fremont City Council Candidates Forum to night. I was the last candidate in the closing comments.
I stated that ” If elected I will hold the office for 4 years and I will not run for Mayor in 2012 and other candidates should also do the same”
I read from Anu’s website ” Anu is one of three active Indian American in Bay Area politics. She is well poised to run for a Mayoral campaign in 2012, which will make her the first Indian American woman to become Mayor “.
She came running towards me ferociously and told me
” you are liar and there is no such thing on my website”.
In order to defend myself before the audience, I told her to log on to her website from her phone or see for herself on others phone, but she ran out immediately. When I came home and log on to her website, she removed the post.
Is she competing for MISS.INDIA or for a very sober
Council seat to serve the people?. May God bless Fremont

I think this issue will become relevant or maybe be not become relevant depending on how the Democratic party does nationwide on Nov.2 I am witnessing a lot of discord and dissension amongst the grass roots Democrats. I am following press reports and polls all of which point to the Democrats receiving a “drubbing” on Nov. 2nd. But as Yogi said, it is not done till it is done. So I am hopeful and would ignore the press and pollsters.

Like many others, it breaks my heart to see how the Democratic party leaders and elected officials in DC who enjoyed close to 70% support in 2008, squandered away that support. It kind of reminds you of Bush who took this nation from a “worldwide sympathy and support” on 9/12 2001, to one that turned into a most hated country even amongst some of the allies. And instead of we “being showered with sweets and garlands on the streets of Iraq”, according to Rumsfeld’s prediction, our President got a shoe hurled at him. Where is the outrage here in the US if we forget this enormous blunder within the short span of 2 years?

But until the elections, I think the Democrats need to come together and work their butts off to ensure that the American people vote to keepp them in the majority. This nation is on a recovery path and we can ill afford to “change horses” mid stream. Let us just hope and pray for that outcome. But if it doesn’t turn out to be that way, then I am anticipating a “Tea Party: the Sequel” in the Democratic party.

I would ask all to please consider voting for the Democrats right down the line starting with the Senate, Congress etc. We need the status quo until the recovery is complete, hopefully by 2012.

The Alameda Register of Voters gives this demographic breakdown of political parties. In Fremont, as of June 10, 2010

    Demo’s 44,210
    Republicans 18,154
    Independents 27,698
    All others 3,841
    http://www.acgov.org/rov/documents/r108_05ror_15day06_08_10.pdf

Notice the large number of independents, mostly ex Democrats that are disgusted with the Tammany hall style of politics, how they shun outsiders.
Who does the Democrats represent. Are they really Democrats or Republicns, that know they cannot win with out changing there registration to a Democrat.

Can you think of local politicians that have changed there registration from Republican to Democrat, I know of several!

  • Bryan H

I did see the following statement WAS on Anu’s website:

“Anu is one of three active Indian Americans in Bay Area politics. She is well poised to run for a Mayoral campaign in 2012, which will make her the first Indian American woman to become mayor.”

  • Chinmoy Roy

    Bryan and Fazlur:

First of all, we need to cease and desist from the politics of personal attacks.

I did go to the website and di notice a “third party flier” of an organization/group of individuals unrelated to the campaign. This group has scheduled a find raiser for Anu. The group can put whatever they want on their flyer. I would not approve if Anu tool it upon herself to censor the flyer and tried to impose on what the group should say.

Since this is a fund raising event, I learnt from the campaign that they have followed a consistent approach of posting on their site, all past and upcoming events.

I am not speaking for the campaign. I am expressing my personal opinion. This flyer is still up on the site and has not been removed as claimed by Mr. Khan. I would urge Anu to continue being “that independent voice” as Argus has portrayed her record to be and to leave that flyer on the website and not be swayed by what her opponents are trying to portray her to be.

  • californiaguy

    Racism is alive and well.
Is it desperation that Fazlur is attacking Anu.
I do not believe Fazlur Khan will beat Linda Susoev.
Fazlur, you are turning everyone off with your personal attacks.

  • Bruce

I’m supporting Kathy and Vinnie. But I don’t see anything wrong with any of Ms. Natarajan’s pictures. Hey, if I had a picture of myself with the President, I’d have it on my homepage too. Maybe if I read more I’ll find something I don’t agree with, but the breathless alarm does not seem justified.

So I also think Fazlur’s comments are over the top. Not for the first time, either.

  • Gus Morrison

While I have not gone to Anu’s web site, I actually read “India Post”, a national newspaper about Indo-American events (I get an e-copy of it each week in my e-mail,) the week of the Festival of India in Fremont. The quote Fazlur uses is the caption of a photo in that newspaper. I shuddered when I read that because one should never run for any office until you secure the one you are going for first, but as we all know, the publisher can put anything he wants in his newspaper. (But you don’t have to put it on your web site.)

  • Bryan H

I’m wondering why Anu said to Fazlur “you are a liar and there is no such thing on my website.” It was actually appeared on the front page of her website (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:YqcS2fU-ix8J:anu4fremont.com/). Fazlur just stated the fact. Why did Anu deny so ferociously?

  • Gautam

Mr. Khan, speaking as an Indian, your comments about Anu are hateful and racist. In the photo with her daughter, you can also see a caucasian woman behind Anu, also waving to the crowd and wearing the sash of the Indian flag colors. She looks like State Senator Corbett to me, but unsure. Is she running for Miss India too?

  • Andy

I may not vote YES for any of the candidates. But I want to vote NO for fazlur khan like I want my decision to subtract his YES tally :) . I am sorry dude. You are obnoxious. Or maybe you are on Anu’s payroll to energize her supporters.

  • californiaguy

I witnessed a couple of young guys tearing down someone campaign sign and put one up for Ishan Shah.
They put up a campaign sign for Shah and put one up for yes on “G”.
I have driven around the city and noticed more signs that had been vandelized.
ISHAN SHAH should rein in his boys, there is a difference between enthusiasm and Vandalism.
Ishan Shaw is accountable for this.

Fazlur I think you are onto something. That magic wand with stars that Anu is waiving proves she is some kind of witch. I believe she has been casting some kind of spell on the citizens of Fremont to steal their votes. She must be stopped. I believe garlic mixed with rum should do the trick.

  • Matt Zinger

Kumar, you are right. Anu has been in our neigborhood sounding nice and asking people for votes. But people have to realize that she would not talk nor entertain you once she gets our votes. She supports developers who are out here building homes on every nook and corner cashing in on fremont School scores. Just see the biggest developer Robson Homes whom Anu Natarajan and Bill Harrison support unabashedly. The same Robson Homes never contributed much for FUSD other than the legal developer fees but advertises about Fremont Schools at every street corner to sell homes.

  • Gus Morrison

Fazlur, please read my post #11 and see if you can identify whatever I said to warrant your attack. You know nothing about any business I have, so pay attention to what you know. It seems like your sole goal in life to to alienate as many people as possible. You are certainly being successful at that.

  • bbox231

What is the issue here ?

Bruce made a couple of pretty lucid point(s) yesterday morning (post 10) and since then there has been no further attempt at clarifying what afront has been comitted (at least not in a language common to most).

Fazlur or Bryan – in plain english – what has Anu done to violate decorum ? I dont think you have presented anything of any substance here.

Re the need to do away with the personalized attacks . . these suggestions are spot on and hopefully those who are crying “foul” in the context of this specific discussion will muster the same assertiveness irrespective of topic and candidate affiliations.

  • http://fcnisbacon.wordpress.com/ Marty

But people have to realize that [Anu] would not talk nor entertain you once she gets our votes.

This is not my experience. Anu moved an issue I had through to the proper channels. All this was initiated by an email.

  • Chinmoy Roy

Candidates do a great disservice to the community when they do not address all sides of an issue. If we step back and care to understand the issues, we will soon start to understand and appreciate the crux of the problems and maybe come up with solutions.

My understanding is that if the Council rejects a developer’s application based on their refusal to build schools, then the city will be sued. Kumar and Matt, are you suggesting that we standby and watch our Council take this city into a costly lawsuit that you and I have to pay for very dearly? Do you want to fatten the pockets of the developers that way instead? Vinnie and Kathy are smart and intelligent folks. They are very well aware of that. So why are they sloganeering and misleading people? They sloganeer but they do not suggest what they propose instead?

People like Anu, Fazlur etc. carry a very big responsibility on their shoulders. They are immigrants and it is up to them to demonstrate that they represent the best of the cross cultures.

Fazlur needs to change his tactics and focus positively. If not for the sake of Fremont, if not for the sake of his fellow immigrants like myself but he should at least do so to avoid embarrassing his daughter whom I happened to meet at a recent debate. She is a wonderful American woman, very polished and I am sure her other sisters are too. It was she who took the initiative to step forward and greet Anu. Fazlur needs to consider their sentiments and stop embarrassing them. I have met with Fazlur on a one-on-one basis and he is a very different man than what he portrays himself to be in the debates. It is his politics that I am totally against. SO FAZLUR PLEASE STOP THIS NEGATIVEITY.

However, I commend Fazlur for raising those wonderful daughters.

  • Charlotte Allen

The City Council and Planning Commission keep talking as if they were forced to approve the Patterson Ranch development proposal because it will have a severe negative impact on Fremont’s schools when in fact there’s nothing in the law that says they have to amend Fremont’s General Plan to please a developer. In addition, there are plenty of reasons in the project environmental impact report to not approve the project, including unresolved toxic soil issues, and three significant and unmitigated violations of Bay Area Air Quality Management standards.

Looks to me as if the Council and Planning Commission are desperately searching for justifications for approving a project that they know won’t benefit Fremont. Do we need 500 more houses on the market? 500 houses for which there are no schools, and possibly no water?

  • Irvington

City government does not exist simply to avoid litigation at all costs. Cities have risked litigation and defended themselves against suits when they feel that it is in the best interests of their residents. Petaluma was sued over their housing cap back in the ’70′s. Pleasanton has recently settled litigation regarding their voter-approved housing cap.

    http://www.insidebayarea.com/trivalleyherald/localnews/ci_15535502

Yes, Pleasanton will pay attorney’s fees for the plaintiffs. However, how much has Pleasanton gained since the housing cap was approved in 1996? The fourteen years since the residents chose to take control of their own growth have been significant in changing the standard of living in Pleasanton. Do we believe that development has been better managed in Fremont than it has been in Pleasanton? Are Pleasanton’s schools better than Fremont’s schools? Is Pleasanton a safer city?

It’s not about avoiding risk; it’s a cost/benefit calculation. Fremont’s current leadership are only interested in short-term benefits. They lack vision, they lack guts, and they are wholly owned by the deep-pocketed special interests who, in the main, do not even live in Fremont. But you have something the special interests do not have – you can vote for a new Council.

  • Chinmoy Roy

Fazlur, you mentioned during one of the debates that you share the same birthday as Mahatma Gandhi. Today is Mahatma’s birthday and so is yours.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, MY FRIEND.

    http://www.ibabuzz.com/tricitybeat/2010/10/01/an-argument-for-requiring-candidates-to-be-at-least-25/

  • Robert

One unfortunate thing is that the same people on the Planning Commission (Lorenz, Bonacorsi, Sharma, Quan, Chugh, etc) that are deciding the fate of Patterson Ranch, Sabercat, downtown, Affordable housing, etc. Will be in line for the appointment to city council when Bob Wiecowski leaves office. This is the last thing we need –appointment of planning commissioners as city council members. This is equal to the fox guarding the hen house. I hope the council will consider fresh candidates who have not voted and/or supported on any of these projects. This will send a message to the citizens that council is indeed fair & understands people’s concern of inside politics where planning commission & city council appear to make deals with each other & potential developers.

  • Robert

The pool for the candidates for appointment should include viable candidates running for election in November, 2010.

  • Chinmoy Roy

The Council appointee maybe be voted out by city voters in the 2012 election. But if the city voters decide to vote for the appointed candidate, then so be it.

Should we blame the council for “appointing their person” as some allege, or should we raise the awareness amongst the voters to not vote for the appointed candidate based on “incumbent” appearing against the name. However, I have seen some candidates indicate “Appointed incumbent” on their ballot statement. Not sure if they do so because it is the law.

  • Charlotte Allen

Chinmoy, I agree – we should immediately raise awareness among voters not to vote for someone just because “incumbent” appears next to their name.

  • californiaguy

Mayor Wasserman, with this present council, will appoint Derk Lorenz Leader of the planning commission or Nina Moore Who works for the Fremont Chamber of Commerce.
That is with the present council, things may change after the election.

Robert, in #30 you say “viable candidates”. I presume that they are going to apply to begin with. If an incumbent places third applies, would that incumbent who lost be considered viable and be a automatic choice?

Besides, on Nov. 2nd, we are voting for two candidates to fill the two vacant positions. We are not being asked to vote for a runner-up candidate. I have not known of any situation where we set out to vote on Nov. 2nd with a certain set of rules and then after we finish the game, we decide to resume the game with a changed set of rules which says that the “third placed candidate is a automatic choice” to fill the vacant seat.

  • Robert

    Chinmoy,
You are missing the point: I’m suggesting that anyone other than the current planning commissioners be considered..that could include people running for office now or other people in the community. I’m concerned that the planning commissioners & city council are too close and tied at the hip. By appointing a dis-interested person
Who has not voted on any of these projects, we may get a fresh face with fresh perspective. Planning Commissioners have been tainted by private meetings with developers and/or city council. Where did I say that the third place candidate automatically get appointed? Please don’t spin my words to suit your candidate.

Regarding #31,we can chose to tell people now to not vote for any incumbent. Why wait until 2012? Oh wait a second, you are Anu’s campaign member. Ofcourse, you don’t want her to be affected.

  • Gus Morrison

A couple of quick points. Re Charlotte, #32, state law requires an incumbent who was appointed to place tht designation on the ballot. It will always say “appointed incumbent.” The At large AC Transit incumbent has that designation this time.

As for #34, I think you have mislabeled your column for independents. That shoule read Non-Partisan instead of Independent. Their actually is a party designation for Independent, but it only contains a few hundred individuals who are listed in the “Other” category. A fine distinction, but a distinction anyway.

  • Chinmoy Roy

Robert, when you drag candidates in and accuse me of being biased, you do not make sense. You are prejudiced and it is not worth pursuing this any further. I thought Fazlur was the one speaking non sense.

    WHO OWNS FREMONT?

On October 2, I celebrated my birthday with my friends also. The topic of the City Council and council elections were also became the part of the conversation.

One of them questioned me WHO OWNS FREMONT?. I replied people who own homes, commercial and other properties and pay taxes. He said the outside developer and special interest.

He further asked me, WHAT IS THE COLOR OF FREMONT?.
I said white, yellow, brown, black and dark tan and I am proud of Fremont due to its wonderful colors. He said the color of Fremont is ORANGE like Gorgean Revolution and see orange sings on the top of the light poles, commercial sign boards, campaign website and a middle aged women is trying to be a teenage magic queen with orange cross and is this the image of your Indian women?.
I said look at our great and respectable Indian ladies like the former Prime Minster Of India Indra Gandhi, present President of India Ms. Pratibha Patil, Indian Congress President Sonia Gandhi and watch our other ladies in Fremont how dignified they are.

Another friend jumped why don’t the Magic Queen, the strongest woman of the Council get the funding and organize the 4th of JULY PARADE IN FREMONT and display your Indian culture along with various other cultures as pat of the unity of Fremont?.
Do you know how many of your Indian decent in the City Commissions, I said we are 4 in Senior Commission. He said no Chinese, 13 out of 12 are Indians in Youth Commission, 3 in Human Relations, 3 in Library and 2 in Planning Commission. He further said that over doing or over stepping can have serious consequences for the community and due to such thing and using forged diplomas in Australia, there was a black lash against the Indians . Many families and students have to leave Australia. He reminded me that we have to maintain balance and live as equals in the community, but not as the conquerors of America.

Thanks for the correction Gus on Independents versus Non Partisan. My point is there is a lot of Non Partisan registered voters who do not want anythig to do with either political party. The number is growing as a fast rate.
Why do you suppose that is, could it be, they no longer represent the people, but there own self interest and there group (Developers) of supporters?
    We need a change!
