Thanks for the correction Gus on Independents versus Non Partisan. My point is there is a lot of Non Partisan registered voters who do not want anythig to do with either political party. The number is growing as a fast rate.
Why do you suppose that is, could it be, they no longer represent the people, but there own self interest and there group (Developers) of supporters?
We need a change!

WHO OWNS FREMONT?

On October 2, I celebrated my birthday with my friends also. The topic of the City Council and council elections were also became the part of the conversation.

One of them questioned me WHO OWNS FREMONT?. I replied people who own homes, commercial and other properties and pay taxes. He said the outside developer and special interest.

He further asked me, WHAT IS THE COLOR OF FREMONT?.
I said white, yellow, brown, black and dark tan and I am proud of Fremont due to its wonderful colors. He said the color of Fremont is ORANGE like Gorgean Revolution and see orange sings on the top of the light poles, commercial sign boards,campaign website and a middle aged women is trying to be a teenage magic queen with orange cross and is this the image of your Indian women?.
I said look at our great and respectable Indian ladies like the former Prime Minster Of India Indra Gandhi,present President of India Ms. Pratibha Patil, Indian Congress President Sonia Gandhi and watch our other ladies in Fremont how dignified they are.

Another friend jumped why don’t the Magic Queen, the strongest woman of the Council get the funding and organize the 4th of JULY PARADE IN FREMONT and display your Indian culture along with various other cultures as pat of the unity of Fremont?.
Do you know how many of your Indian decent in the City Commissions, I said we are 4 in Senior Commission.He said no Chinese, 13 out of 12 are Indians in Youth Commission, 3 in Human Relations, 3 in Library and 2 in Planning Commission. He further said that over doing or over stepping can have serious consequences for the community and due to such thing and using forged diplomas in Australia, there was a black lash against the Indians . Many families and students have to leave Australia. He reminded me that we have to maintain balance and live as equals in the community, but not as the conquerors of America.

A couple of quick points. Re Charlotte, #32, state law requires an incumbent who was appointed to place tht designation on the ballot. It will always say “appointed incumbent.” The At large AC Transit incumbent has that designation this time.

As for #34, I think you have mislabeled your column for independents. That shoule read Non-Partisan instead of Independent. Their actually is a party designation for Independent, but it only contains a few hundred individuals who are listed in the “Other” category. A fine distinction, but a distinction anyway.

You are missing the point: I’m suggesting that anyone other than the current planning commissioners be considered..that could include people running for office now or other people in the community. I’m concerned that the planning commissioners & city council are too close and tied at the hip. By appointing a dis-interested person
Who has not voted on any of these projects, we may get a fresh face with fresh perspective. Planning Commissioners have been tainted by private meetings with developers and/or city council. Where did I say that the third place candidate automatically get appointed? Please don’t spin my words to suit your candidate.

Regarding #31,we can chose to tell people now to not vote for any incumbent. Why wait until 2012? Oh wait a second, you are Anu’s campaign member. Ofcourse, you don’t want her to be affected.

Robert, in #30 you say “viable candidates”. I presume that they are going to apply to begin with. If an incumbent places third applies, would that incumbent who lost be considered viable and be a automatic choice?

Besides, on Nov. 2nd, we are voting for two candidates to fill the two vacant positions. We are not being asked to vote for a runner-up candidate. I have not known of any situation where we set out to vote on Nov. 2nd with a certain set of rules and then after we finish the game, we decide to resume the game with a changed set of rules which says that the “third placed candidate is a automatic choice” to fill the vacant seat.

The Alameda Register of Voters gives this demographic breakdown of political parties. In Fremont, as of June 10, 2010

Demo’s 44,210
Republicans 18,154
Independents 27,698
All others 3,841

Notice the large number of independents, mostly ex Democrats that are disgusted with the Tammany hall style of politics, how they shun outsiders.
Who does the Democrats represent. Are they really Democrats or Republicans, that know they cannot win with out changing there registration to a Democrat.

Can you think of local politicians that have changed there registration from Republican to Democrat, I know of several!

Mayor Wasserman, with this present council, will appoint Derk Lorenz Leader of the planning commission or Nina Moore Who works for the Fremont Chamber of Commerce.
That is with the present council, things may change after the election.

The Council appointee maybe be voted out by city voters in the 2012 election. But if the city voters decide to vote for the appointed candidate, then so be it.

Should we blame the council for “appointing their person” as some allege, or should we raise the awareness amongst the voters to not vote for the appointed candidate based on “incumbent” appearing against the name. However, I have seen some candidates indicate “Appointed incumbent” on their ballot statement. Not sure if they do so because it is the law.
