Fremont Council Journal

Dominic Dutra has agreed without any mental reservation to defend the constitution of the United States and the State of California against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Now he is officially back on the council. I wish I could have been there in person with John Sr. and the clan, but time got away from me, so I’m watching this in the office instead of at City Hall, where they’re serving refreshments to honor Dutra’s return.

In a short speech, Dutra didn’t mention NUMMI redevelopment, but made it clear union contracts were going to be a top priority.

He called for a multi-year phased strategy to restructure employment compensation and post retirement benefits. I think those were his exact words, but it was loud in here and I’m not 100 percent sure.

I did hear anti-fluoride crusader Wyn Grcich rip Fremont and praise Newark. I also heard the council agree to move forward with using eminent domain to acquire property needed for a new rail overpass on Warren Avenue.

And, with only some unsweetened mango and roasted almonds at my disposal, I heard the council adjourn for some tasty cake.

  1. Must not be a need for those long, pesky council meetings now that the Prince is on board. All must be right with the world……his anyway.

  2. I wonder how Dominic feels about expanding the council to seven council members. Council members by district to insure fair representation for every one, not just the insiders.
The present Council is part time.
Fremont will always be a podunk city as long as we have part time amatuers running things.

  3. Thanks for that link, Robert. Dutra sounds like a genius. Has any member of the Fremont government or any council candidate for that matter, put the reality of employee compensation so bluntly?

I will vote Dom Dutra for mayor in a heartbeat.

  4. Dominic Dutra votes for Dominic Dutra: Alert the Media!

  5. I like your sarcasm, Robert. But $128K/ year for Albert Torrico! I guess it’s not who you know but who you blow.
