Fremont motorcyclist star is dead

I’m going to try to get something about Rick Hocking in the paper. He won four motocross competitions. This story tells all about his career.

Rick was an exceptional rider, I am about 4 years older than him but I idolized him. I used to watch him at the Baylands Raceways in Fremont and couldn’t believe him. I remember him saying at one of the race
nites that no one could beat him at this track and at all the races I went to he never disappointed me!
I never knew him real well but worked with him
at Champaion Racing Frames as a welder for a short time when I was layed off from my job at FMC Corp.I had the privelage
of riding with him once at a place we called Pue Park in the Hayward salt flats (it was named that because of the way it smelled).I was on my brother Jerry Johnson’s new 360 Yamaha, he is the real racer in the family,I was just having a ball Rick blew my doors off of course but I learned from him.I wish I could have known him better.
We will always have good memories of you Rocket Rick.
