Mission Pass Towing & Transport was the company that police recommended not receive the tow contract last year. Walt White, the owner, had the contract for more than 20 years, and he's the one who brought a lot of friends to the council meeting last year.

The two companies that were once again recommended for the contract, but which nevertheless expressed serious concerns with police department's process in recommending towers were All Ways Towing & Transport and Central Towing & Transport.

The company that came in and was recommended to take Walt White's spot was Jack James Tow.

Alain Morec, who cut his teeth at All Ways, is the manager at Jack James.

Several folks said Morec told them Jack James was getting the Fremont Police Department contract, but the only one who put it in writing were the the top brass at Pro Star Towing, which also competed for the towing contract. The city hired an investigator to look into the allegation. It was "he said/she said," and the investigator never asked the police any questions.

The tow truck operator who rented a room to a now retired traffic officer is Quinn P. of Central Towing. I forget how to spell his last name. It rhymes with mining. The cop who rented the room was Quinn's friend, Chris Guckert. They said they disclosed the arrangement to Guckert's superiors, and that it was approved.

Three of the four officers inspecting the tow truck companies last year were friends of Morec. The cop that went to his baby shower (according to Morec) and made more than a dozen cell phone calls to Morec (according to city records) in the first part of last year was Officer John Rosette.

Is there a reason why you can't be more specific about the names of the people and tow companies that are involved?

It's not classified information, is it?

Knowing the names of the outfits involved, enables me to make an informed decision the next time I need a tow.

thanks.

Californiaguy, Your bias against the council is unwarranted in this case. They took the right action in rejecting the PD proposal last time and they took the appropriate action this time. The idea of zones makes little sense because two of the three firms they selected last time are next door to each other on Boyce Road. Rotation works for the CHP and it works in cities around the state and region.

Euphxenos, next time someone blocks your driveway and you can't get your car to the street, tell the PD that when you call. It becomes a safety issue and they should respond. If they don't, ask what recourse you have. People can park on the street anytime, but they cannot block access by parking in your driveway. They deserve to be towed.

You mean it's possible to get a car towed in Fremont? Every time someone parks across my driveway, I call the police, and they won't do anything about it. At the same time, I can't have the car towed myself because it's parked on a public street. Under what circumstances will the Fremont police actually send out a tow truck?
