"I am not putting any greater onus on Vinnie...."

As usual, the record will prove your own statement incorrect, Marty. Since you've never held ANYONE to ANY onus on this matter . . . you would INDEED be holding Vinnie to a greater onus.

See there's this complicated little consideration that *something* is always GREATER than *nothing* . . . at least last time I checked.

Gee, thanks Marty! Although "highly paid" is debatable, our town deserves higher paid than other municipalities for our public employees. You get what you pay for. And I'd much rather vote for a public servant (who have already proven by their service to hold the people in Fremont to high esteem) to office than a real estate developer, lawyer, tech consultant etc. Hopefully, Vinnie and the gang will be able to balance everyone's interest going forward.

Box, I am not putting any greater onus on Vinnie. I'm simply giving him one of the lowest thresholds to work - not selling the people out for labor support.

Remember, he asked for the job (three times!) So absolutely, it is NOW his problem.

Interesting to place Vinnie center stage on an issue that all of his predecessors have so clearly been tip-toeing around forever and with nary a critical comment from the Marty gallery . . . but NOW it's Vinnie's problem.

I'm hardly part of the "blame BANG" group, but we just had an election that decided mayor and elected a notable challenger to the council and not one tidbit on the blog?

For the vote totals, I see a simple expiation - 50,000 people walking into the polling place and only 40,000 knowing they can select two for council.

I do agree that Anu may have seen a bump if she coordinated with Bacon. There's no surprise he was elected. He has a strong backing and is one of the most recognizable politicians in the city. I think Vinnie learned his lesson about co-campaigning though.

I was also interested to see a new face - Rick Jones. I'll admit I was not able drive past one of his signs without the image of Dave Chappelle in costume saying "I'm Rick Jones, B***h!" He seemed like a nice enough guy, but hiring an ex-cop to negotiate labor contracts makes me nervous. I just won't consider ex-police or fire for council.

Anyhow, I didn't vote for Vinnie this time but I respect that he's on the council. As long as he holds the people of Fremont in higher esteem than the interests of city labor forces he will have my support.

Bbox #10,
What a great analysis of what happened. I have new found respect for Mr Bbox. This is what this forum is for reporting what the argus (oakland tribune) does not.

There was so much political intrigue going on in Fremont Politics. None of which was reported by the oakland tribune.

Oakland politics which no one in Fremont gives a damn about, gets shoved down our throats by the BANG Group.

And the beat goes on...

According to the ACRoV web site there are (so far) 49828 ballots cast for a Fremont Mayor (pick one). But, in the Council race there were a total of 80975 votes cast for one of the several council candidates. Assuming that everyone who voted for Mayor also voted at least once for a Council candidate, what's interesting is that fully 1/3rd of the ballots cast for council, opted NOT to vote for a second council candidate.

These basic numbers get slightly more interesting when you begin to think about which consituent factions are more or less likely to opt out of making a second candidate selection.

Sue "Recuse me" Chan is a the visible front-runner who represents the pro-status-quo crowd and, coincidentally, gets the identical 18k votes that Billie-H has so far. (P.S. - we've seen this very same number in past elections) I speculate that this same pro-stadium faction would be just fine with any number of the remaining alternates with some opting for a recognizable Dutra and others who are influenced by Argus's exhaustive coverage of all crime in our city casting a ballot for Jones as their second choice.

I'm certain I'm off base, but if there is any truth in the above, then Vinnie and his supporters have successfully amassed a signficant number of electorate who had one name in mind.

And, here I thought I was all alone!

All pure speculation, of course.

But, here's the fun stuff - - - - had any of the Mayoral candidates hitched their little wagons to the Bacon team and had Vinnie endorsed a mayoral candidate - - - as many as 20,000 votes could have been aligned behind . . . . someone. Anu could have been in the national headlines and on TV, or, perhaps Bill would be holding out for those last few ballots to be counted.

One thing is for certain.
There's compelling evidence in this years' results of a new and growing political faction.

And this one is paying attention.
