HAYWARD — An industrial worker was struck and killed Tuesday morning by a big rig backing up to a loading dock, police said.

The employee, identified as Xiaobon Cheng, 56, of Union City, was pronounced dead at the scene, Krimm said.

Officers were called at 9:10 a.m. to Keeco LLC at 30736 Wiegman Road for a report of man who was bleeding, said police Sgt. Eric Krimm.

When officers arrived they learned that a big rig with a trailer backed up into a loading dock and fatally struck Cheng, who worked at the business, Krimm said. Located east of Interstate 880 near Industrial Parkway, Keeco manufactures and distributes textile products for the home, according to its website.

The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health are en route to investigate the incident, police said.
