Story by Natalie Alund:

Two men with an 8-inch meat cleaver stole a teenager’s cell phone outside Thornton Junior High School on Friday, police said.

Officers responded at 10 a.m. to Thornton Avenue and Dusterberry Way for a report of an armed robbery after the victim called 911, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

The victim told police he was sitting on a bench on the west side of the school when two men approached him.

The first man pulled out a meat cleaver and ordered the teen to empty his pockets, Bosques said. The teen complied, pulled out his cell phone and handed it over to the suspects who then walked off through fields on the north side of the school.

The teen was not injured, Bosques said.
