Yau-Man Gets Another Shot On “Survivor”!

SURVIVOR: MICRONESIA - FANS VS. FAVORITES

Yau-Man Chan, the Martinez resident who got a raw deal during his stint on “Survivor: Fiji,” apparently will have a shot at redemption. EW.com is reporting that he’ll be among the “returning favorites” competing in the upcoming “Survivor: Micronesia.”

Chan, 55, is one of 10 all-stars participating in the 16th edition of the reality series, which pits past contestants against “super fans.” The East Bay will also have a representative among the newbies — Mary Sartain, 29, a small-business owner from Emeryville.

The show debuts on CBS on Feb. 7.

According to EW.com, the tribe of returnees features contestants going all the way back to Season 7, including two from the recently completed “Survivor: China” — gravedigger James Clement and the person who engineered his ouster, Amanda Kimmel. Meanwhile the “Cook Islands” season is responsible for three contestants: Parvati Shallow, Jonathan Penner, and Ozzy Lusth. Rounding out the tribe is “Panama’s” Cirie Fields, “Vanuatu’s” Eliza Orlins and Ami Cusack, and the show’s biggest villain ever: “Pearl Island’s” Jon Dalton (a.k.a. Jonny Fairplay), who infamously faked his own grandmother’s death to go further in the game.

Chan, one of the most popular players in recent “Survivor” installments, came oh so close to winning the $1 million in Fiji. But he made a crucial blunder in the late going when he trusted fellow competitor Andria “Dre” Herd (Dreamz) to keep his end of a bargain.
After winning a Ford truck in a reward challenge, Chan stunned everyone by handing over the vehicle to Dreamz. For his part, Dreamz agreed to surrender his immunity status to Chan if the men made it into the final four.

Alas, the chance to vie for $1 million was too much to resist for Dreamz, who reneged on the deal and advanced to the final three. “My weakness is that I don’t read people well,” Chan told me after the show ended. “I made a very expensive mistake.”
