Was Kristi Yamaguchi too good — or too bland — for “Dancing With the Stars”?
The figure skating champion and East Bay native breezed to the title this past season and you get the feeling that some fans — as well as ABC entertainment chief Steve McPherson — were bored to tears.
“It wasn’t just Kristi. I think that the kind of real finalists were really great dancers, really fun, but just nice, sweet personalities,” McPherson said. “There wasn’t a whole lot going on. I think it’s good to have some controversy. It’s good to have a little bit more edge at times and a little bit more competition.”
So what can expect nastier, edgier people this season, asked a reporter?
“No, I just think — I think it’s all about compelling personalities. And those can come from all different walks of life,” “McPherson said. “… Kristi was lovely. She was an unbelievable
dancer, but there wasn’t too much mystery to that. It looked like she was going to win the competition unless she fell early on. I think that takes away from some of the fun.”

Oh come on. Adam C. was enough edginess to make one feel uncomfortable with what would come out of his mouth next. And the public booted him out.
It IS a dancing show and that is what we want to see. Celebs learning to take on tougher and tougher dances and get better and better at it.
The magician was edgy, Penn and I grew weary of him too.
I say, Congrats Kristi and she deserved to win and I loved watching her every week.
