“Bionic Woman” doesn’t premiere on NBC until Sept. 26, but already the show and its star, British actress Michelle Ryan, are generating tons of Internet buzz. This morning, Ryan took a break from shooting in Vancouver to talk to reporters via teleconference about how it’s going so far.

Ryan, a self-described “adrenaline junkie,” says she’s loving the fights and stunt work. She’s already had some “hardcore” battles with former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington, who plays a character working to train the newly retrofitted Jaime Sommers. Apparently, the Washington character is a real hard-ass who wants Jaime to “give into the machine” and bring out her “animal instincts.” It results in much friction between the two.

Ryan says her dance training and flexibility has helped immensely with the role and that she’s trying to do as much of her own stuntwork as possible. “They give you a real buzz going through the week,” she says.

Our new Jaime has seen very little of the original “Bionic Woman” (”just a couple clips as a child”), but that’s fine with her because she’s trying to do her own interpretation of the character in a much darker and straightforward remake. “I connect with Jaime on every level,” she says. “… She has this inner steeliness mixed with this soft side. … She is vulnerable and has flaws. … I love the fact that she can’t cook and that she has body issues just like any woman. … That at certain moments, she’s really scared and has to dig deep to find herself.”

It all adds up to a great adventure for Ryan, who has been acting since her teen years, but is taking on her first major starring role in American television.

“I feel like a kid getting to live out all my childhood fantasies,” she says.
