The ax man cometh

For those of us with a morbid sense of humor, it’s always fun to try and guess which new show will be the first to die. This year, it’s not quite as challenging because Fox launched its new fall wares way ahead of the pack, so we’ve already had a chance to spot a few weak performers, such as “Happy Hour” and “Justice,” which have been pulled from the schedule (but not as of yet officially cancelled).

Still, the Website for Bravo’s “Brilliant But Cancelled” has been polling readers on what show they think will be the first to go and we’ve got a story on it in today’s TimeOut.

We’ve held “Cancellation Pool” contests through my column in past years, but I refrained this time around because of the Fox early-launch decision. Still, if you want to venture a guess on what show will be the first to die — or just vent your disgust with any of the new shows — please don’t hesitate to do so. Here at the Freak House, all rants are heartily welcomed..

Thoughts on Premiere Week

So what do you think of the new TV season so far? Have you seen “Studio 60″? Do the shows rock — or blow? Or have you even had a chance to sort through them yet? (I know my poor TiVo is already stressed out).

This is avalanche time in the season. Just when you’ve gotten through one new show, another one or two (or five) is following close behind. In today’s TimeOut we’ve got reviews of “Shark” and “Six Degrees.” The former is a legal procedural starring James Woods and the latter is an offbeat drama about personal interconnections from J.J. Abrams’ production company. They both debut on Thursday.

Also in TimeOut today: A fun little graphic in which we match up “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI,” the shows that will form a clash of the TV titans on Thursday nights this season. (And did you hear Fox is thinking about airing “American Idol” on Thursdays in January?) Oh man, what a bloodbath that could be.

Well, I’ll let you get back to your TV-viewing. Keep in mind that there’s still time to play our trivia game. We have no takers so far on the “Mary Tyler Moore” question. What, have I finally stumped you?
