I don’t know why in the world Brett Favre wants to come back to the NFL. Doesn’t he know he’s on the Madden NFL 09 cover? Doesn’t he know that folks on said cover have awful seasons often risking injury? Or perhaps, this is working the other way around.

The Madden curse is so powerful that it can make rational people make irrational decisions. Even Hall of Famers can’t resist it’s nefarious powers. (Cue the spooky music.)

Anyway, EA decided to have a little fun with this hoopla over Favre. Where will he go? What will he do? To help give fans an idea of Favre’s impact, the folks at Tiburon simmed the NFL season with Favre on different teams.

Here are the results:

1. If he were on Tampa Bay, the team would go 12-4 and lose Div Playoff Game v Eagles (28 - 34).

2. If here were on the New York Jets, the team would go 11-4-1 and lose the Wild Card Game v Browns (19 - 22).

3. If he were to return to the Green Bay Packer, he would go 9-7 and lose the Div Playoff Game v Cowboys (17 - 25)

4. If he went to the Vikings, the team would go 10-6 and lose Wild Card Game v
Bucs (11 - 6). So much for all that firepower on offense and that ultimate defense, eh?

Interestingly enough, the same teams could do moderately well with the quarterback they have. Well, everyone except for the Vikings. Here are the results:

1. Tampa Bay would go 11-5 and lose the Conference Championship v Eagles (28 - 35) with Jeff Garcia at the helm.

2. A Chad Pennington led Jets would be 9-7 and not make the playoffs.

3. Packer fans can take heart. Aaron Rodgers would go 12-4 but lose the Div Playoff Game against the Bucs (37-31 OT)

4. Finally, Tavaris Jackson wouldn’t do too well. Madden NFL 09 says the team would go 5-11 and fail to make the playoffs with him under center.
