It pales in comparison to the announcement of a new Star Wars MMO, but Episode 2 of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will be available for PC, Mac and Linux through Greenhouse and Xbox 360 through Live Arcade next Wednesday, Oct. 29.
This, mind you, is six days after the release of Episode 1 on PSN.

This one’s for the stat nerds out there. The type of fan who would rather read a box score than watch a game, who spends more time tweaking their fantasy team than sleeping, who can calculate VORP in their head. You know who you are.
On the off chance you stat nerds don’t know already, Out of the Park Baseball is a long-running series of stat-based baseball management sims for the PC and Mac. There’s no actual baseball in them in the traditional sense, bats don’t crack and the graphics are limited to player portraits and still shots of fields. Everything is a series of numbers, from scouting to games to lineups to every other minute detail about the game of baseball. And they’ve just released the ninth installment which, in addition to including 2008 opening day Major League rosters, now includes fights and suspensions, tracking of streaks, better scouting and more saved stats.
If that paragraph didn’t scare you off immediately you really have to download the demo. It’s extremely addictive if you see baseball as a math problem anyway and pretty easy to learn if you put some time into it.

Apple’s WWDC is today and Steve Jobs’ keynote is going on as I type this very post. I’m not there (sigh) but according to the liveblogs the first hour or more of the show was dedicated to upcoming iPhone apps.
Some, like those from MLB and the AP sound cool, but this blog is about video games so here are the ones you care about: Super Monkey Ball, Cro-Mag Rally and Enigmo.
You should already know what Super Monkey Ball is, if you don’t you owe it to yourself to go play and find out how cool it will be with motion controls. Cro-Mag Rally is a Neanderthal-themed cart racer and Enigmo is a physics-based puzzle game, both of which are currently out for the Mac.
Monkey Ball will definitely be a launch title for the new OS, the other two will come soon after at the latest. And knowing Jobs that launch may very well be at the end of this presentation.
Update: No such luck, we still have to wait. My iPhone is obsolete now though so there’s always that. Thanks, Steve! Didn’t even wait a year!

Mac gaming: one of the oldest gamer oxymorons. It’s not exactly fertile gaming ground and, even when a Mac game does come out, it’s usually a few years late. Macs as gaming computers peaked at Marathon. Sure now that Intel chips are the norm and Boot Camp works you could always just install Windows, but if you wanted to give Microsoft money you wouldn’t have bought from Apple in the first place.
Well, there’s a new way for those of you out there who haven’t been exposed to the wonders of PC gaming to try it out: CrossOver. It’s basically just a Windows emulator designed with games in mind.
Unfortunately according to The Unofficial Apple Weblog’s hands-on it’s not exactly a polished product, it has some pretty serious freezing problems and doesn’t work all the time even on supported titles. So you’re still probably better off installing Windows via Boot Camp or just buying a PC.
