This contract thing sounds a little scarry. I don’t think Jax is in the long term plans of the warriors, especially if Marcus Williams works out. With Monta, Mags, and Randolph, there doesn’t leave much room for Jax. With the monta injury, he could be gone soon.

Jackson can’t make more than 10.5%/year increases, per the CBA. This applies to extensions, as well. He can’t make more than 8.4M in the 2010-11, which would make him 4th highest paid then (Harrington would be off the books).

I don’t think he’s asking for the moon – he’s just looking out for #1. Stephen’s obviously aware that his career is winding down – he said he hopes to last 6-7 more years. He’s been around long enough to know that most players don’t end up as a starter and 2nd leading scorer on their team.

I just wish he hadn’t said anything publicly.

I did not want to hear Jackson talking about money. After Baron bolting, the offseason was going pretty well. But now this money thing is out in the open. And if we can’t work out a reasonable extension we have to trade him, and what team would want him now that everyone knows he wants an extension? And even if he gets his extension he’ll still be the 5th highest player this year and next year. Man, I wish it was never brought up.

Hey Marcus. Good interview. I wish that I had posted a question for Capt. Jack before you made it out to P.A.T. Anyways, a question that I would have asked for Jax is do you plan on working on your ball handling ALOT more this summer so that way we don’t see as many turnovers when you try to beat your man off the dribble? It seems like most of his turnovers come from a lack of having a good handle.

So Jax is expecting a contract extension including a raise from the Warriors. I kind of think that is highly unlikely but stranger things have happened. What’s everybody’s thoughts on that happening?

Very cool, Marcus. I’m now sorry I or someone didn’t ask what it would take for our team to play reasonably good defense and have that tough mindset. Would it take a new coach or a different set of players? Or at least a few players who are the recognized leaders like Jax.

I also have a comment. Jax continued to talk about players and teams needing to be ego-less to succeed, but why is he asking for more money? Because money and ego go hand in hand in professional athletics. Its all about the money. I mean Jax is smart and knows he isn’t going to ever get any more money than is getting right now. I mean the guy will be 32 when his contract expires and he makes $8M a year. And he’s been making a lot of money for a number of years. In my mind, he is definitely worth more than Harrington, at least to the Warriors. But nobody is going to do anything about that. Anyway, my point is that if he is talking about how ego (or the lack of it) is really important to the success of the team, then quit complaining about making $8M a year and be friggen grateful that 1. he makes that kind of money compared to the rest of the world; 2. that he is the Captain of team with players and coaches who obviously respect him; and 3. he’s got a coach that makes it pretty much fun to run and gun and doesn’t make the team play anything close to fierce defense.

Anyway, nice job Marcus and thanks to Jax for answering some of our questions.
