B. Diddy Wants Back In?

According to Stephen Jackson, who spent Saturday with his friend Baron Davis, the former Warriors guard wouldn’t mind being traded back to Golden State. Jackson has already launched the campaign to get Davis back to Oakland.
“That’s all we talked about,” Jackson said. “I went to his house, spent some time with his mom and his grandmother. He wants to come back. And if he wants to come back, I want him back.”
Obviously, things haven’t gone well in Los Angeles. The Clippers are 8-21 after getting smoked by Dallas at home on Sunday afternoon. But Davis has said all along he didn’t want to leave. Get this: Clippers owner Donald Sterling is a huge fan of Corey Maggette and didn’t want him to go. Maggette plus one could get the deal done. Jackson’s already started lobbying.
“I think that would be great for us,” Jackson said. “Coach loves him. Him and (guard) Monta (Ellis) have good chemistry. If they could work that out, that would be great for the organization.”
So, would you want Baron Davis back? For who? Let’s hear it …

Marcus Thompson

  • Jose

Don’t tantalize Warrior fans with stuff like this. To bring back the excitement of ’07 and ’08? I’d have BD back in a heart beat.

The problem is that I really don’t see it happening with Rowell the colossus on the loose. His ego might get in the way of any deal getting done considering this would be an admission he made a mistake in dealing Baron in the first place.

  • gswarriors08

Of course, I want him back. Throw in Jamal Crawford to seal up the deal. We can take one of their players to make the deal work. A deal that sends Magegette and Crawford to L.A. for Baron and another player would be the perfect Christmas gift. So let’s continue lobbying this until it happens.

  • Norm

Hell ya bring him back!!!! I love Crawford, but I would be willing to trade him along with Marcus Wil, and Magette. That would bring instant credibility back to the Dubs!

    BRING B.D. BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • romoisahomo

    hell ya. i hate magette.

  • gswfan1

    please do this trade!

maggs+jamal for bd! maby it will work!

    please!!

    we need BD back!

we dont need 2 ball chuckers that cant pass for crap

  • Willy

    BRING BD BACK!!

  • ramg529

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gswfan1

look at what the clippers linup would be-
    1-jamal, mike, jordon
    2-thorton, jordon
    3-maggette, thorton
    4-zach, camby, paul davis
    5-cayman, camby, deandre

plus that would give the clippers a real player that can come off the bench and play in eric.

honestly i think this trade would really benifit both teams. barons not meshing with that style, or coach, or team, while jamal and maggs preferr the half court style, and it would relive the warriors of 2 players that we never really had room for.

    so then it will be

    1-baron, monta, belinelli
    2-monta, belinelli, azibukie, stack jack
    3-stephen jackson, azibukie, belinelli
    4-brandan, randolph, ronnie
    5-andris, ronnie, brandan

honestly it makes both teams better. i just hope our stupid owner/president could take this trade. cause were practicly paying the same for maggs and baron, exept maggs missed more games, and baron makes our team better. and we just geek a salary dump with jamal.

  • http://contracostatimes.com Alan

    BRING BACK BARON DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Le

    Yes!!!

  • Andrew Rosenblum

Bring back Baron! Kawakami is right that Maggette is not going back to the Clippers while Dunleavy has G.M. duties, but frankly at 8-21, that guy might get fired. In which case, this is actually possible –

Seriously, the team has no way to distribute the ball! They guys are doing their best, but they need a real point guard. Stephen Jackson is good enough as a playmaker on just about any playground in the country, but this is the N.B.A. folks! Baron, Monta, Jack, Turiaf/Wright, Biedrins — yesssss! With a bench of Azubuike, Bellinelli, Randolph, Watson, and Morrow? That could be a really good team! You still have concerns about Baron’s health long-term, but as Keynes said, in the long-run, we are all dead. Let’s see the Dubs competitive in the present.

  • DN

There is no doubt whatsoever that bringing back B Diddy will make our team much better than it is right now. With Baron back, we can temporarily stall development at the PG position for at least a few years (seeing how he will be with us for at least five more years) and concentrate solely on developing our frontcourt, namely Wright at the 4 and Randolph at the 3. Ideally, the Dubs’ front office would love to get rid of Maggette’s horrible contract in a swap for Baron Davis. However, Jamal Crawford cannot be included in the same package with Maggette or anyone else from the Warriors for that matter due to his Trade Restriction status. Crawford can only be traded in a deal that involves only himself from the Warriors. Azubuike is also untradeable to the Clippers since he signed an offer sheet with them in the summer. So, perhaps a Maggette + Marcus Williams for Baron Davis deal, provided that the Clippers want Maggette back…but I don’t see any reason why they want him back at all. Quite frankly, I think we are better off trading away Maggette and Stephen Jackson to championship contenders for expiring contract(s) to go after Boozer in the upcoming offseason. The Lakers need a solid small forward in the starting lineup, so perhaps we should make a call to them about a deal involving Stephen Jackson, who has championship experience and is a multidimensional forward who can defend and assist, plus a filler for Lamar Odom, whose $14 million contract will give us great flexibility to sign free agents in the offseason (not to mention Adonal Foyle’s contract also comes off the book by the end of this season). The Lakers should bite into this deal since Jackson is a much much better option than both Radmonovic and Luke Walton.

  • Mike W.

No way. Have you seen his stats? He’s not playing well and he’s not getting any younger. And let’s not forget he had a chance to sign with the Ws and passed so he could go back “home” and play with Maggette and Brand. That got messed up and he wants to come back? Forget it.

  • No Fillin

i’d definitely want him back. but i’d want to keep crawford… maggettee and williams for baron, straight up!

  • gswfan1

    no fillin,
sorry but wed need to give up crawford to get baron. theyd need a pg, in crawford, and maggette would play the 3 while thorton the 2.

  • Dig

    Bring back BD!

  • run dmc

fuck baron davis, he ditched us to play in LA for more money, he shoulda known he was throwing his career away by playing for the clippers. i dont want him back, he left us.

  • run dmc

i definitely dont want to trade crawford for him.

  • Run DMC is a moron

hey dumbass, i guess you haven’t read up much about the basketball world but there WAS a deal offered to baron that was similar to the one he’s getting now. unfortunately though, rowell refused to sign off on the deal.

he’s getting 12 mil in LA. he was offered 12 mil to come back here. how is he getting more money idiot? it’s not his fault the deal with the warriors fell through.

you know you’d be cheering his ass if he came back and helped us get back to winning. stop kidding yourself.

  • A’s in 2009

    For Maggette? Hell yeah.

  • Yadada

Uhh… Baron didn’t leave us for more money! Robert Rowell didn’t want him back! Baron’s agent and Mully had agreed upon a contract involving 3 years – $36 mil (don’t know the exact numbers). Then idiot Rowell, over-rode the whole deal.

I’d trade Crawford and Buuks for Boom, all day. Then dangle Maggette and Brandan Wright over to Atlanta for Josh Smith, who they’re currently unhappy with.

  • Kweezy

With the state of the Warriors franchise right now bringing Baron back would put a jolt into the organization. Baron is a bonafied superstar when he is HEALTHY. AND we get to dump Maggette?! Are you kidding me?! A squad of Baron, Jackson, and an improved Biedrens and Monta and a better bench are assuredly playoff contenders. I’d give LA Maggette plus anyone besides Randolph and the aformentioned players. Can you think of how fast this franchise can turn around just from bringing Baron back?!?! I know the players would be happy. The fans would be happy. We Believe would be back! Happy players + happy fans = successful franchise.

  • Kweezy

Marcus, how much of a chance do we REALLY have to get Baron back?! I don’t want to get my hopes up.. Also, I read in Ric Bucher’s article that Nelson might not have wanted Baron back?! How do you think Nelson feel’s about Baron?

  • Pingback: SLAM ONLINE | » Baron Davis: Back to Oakland?

  • Sdiddy

I would give up Crawford and Maggette for Baron

  • Robo

Moneywise, trading Baron for Corey straight-up doesn’t work, but trading Baron for Corey and some other players does. These scenarios below financially would work:

    Baron for Maggette, Azubuike.
Baron for Maggette, Wright, and either Morrow, Nelson, or Kurz.
Baron for Maggette, Randolph, and Williams.

Now, I love Baron; he’s just what the W’s need! And Williams I could care less about, but I wouldn’t want to part with Kelenna, Brandan, or AR. No way!

If there’s a chance to get Baron, then I think the W’s would need to look for another team to get involved. And I think other teams may have a greater interest in Crawford instead of Maggette.

  • spe

Crawford deserves to be a Warrior, he has the ability and most importantly he has the want to be a Warrior. I would never suggest throwing him into a trade to get immediate, short term results for Baron.

  • commish

Hell no. Nelson would sit back on his fat ass and run the vets into the ground to get the wins he needs to have the most wins of a coach. The young guys would not get anything close to the development they need to grow into stars and live in Nelson’s notorious dog house or worse–Nelson might trade AR because he had the guts to bitch about the way Nelson coaches (or doesn’t coach).

We have to trade Maggette, no doubt. Since he has lost significant value–what automatically happens when you sign with the Warriors or buy a new car–perhaps a big expiring contract giving us some cap room for next season. But certainly nothing like the $10 exemption Cohan can pocket and not improve the team.

I don’t want to “win now”–Nelson’s only mantra and desire. I want a team for the future with a new coach that teaches tough defense and team basketball. We got a taste of what that looks like last night against the Lakers. It starts with the expectations and discipline of the coach. Nelson only priority is to win now and look really smart and tricky. No to bringing BD back IMHO.

  • Marcus

    Kweezy,

I don’t think this would happen. A couple of owners wwould have to step in and pull rank. Warriors’ owner Chris Cohan is going to have to over rule Bobby Rowell and Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling is going to have to make an executive decision over Mike Dunleavy. The likelihood of both of those happening is super slim.

(Although, as an aside, the Warriors have had just two sellouts this year and certainly aren’t getting the bang for their buck on the court, so one would think they would at least think about it. Bringing back Baron would be a storyline that could spare the profit margin, which is expected to take a hit in this economy).

In the end, though, you are dealing with huge egos on every hand. A deal like this would take some humility and beef squashing and, most important, a power broker to make it happen, like Mullin was for Nellie’s return. Mullin has already been over ruled on the B. Diddy situation. Baron’s agent, Todd Ramasar, probably doesn’t have any ins with the Warriors to get everybody to the table. Not sure about Pelinka, Maggette’s agent (who may not even want his guy back with the Clippers). Who’s going to make this happen? Jackson has Bobby Rowell’s ear, but I don’t know if he has that kind of clout with the Pres. If he did, Baron would’ve gotten his deal in the first place.

  • Hank

this article is like a dancer with pasties.

  • MountainJim

This is just looking backwards at what passes for the good old days for this pathetic franchise.

Now if you told me Cohan was selling I’d get excitted.

  • J.A. (A.J.’s brother)

I don’t know guys……….I mean I think we still need a lot more than just BD.

We’re not shooting the ball well at all.

I mean last night against the Lakers, a terrible shooting performane as usual for our squad.

Baron will put players in position to make easier baskets yes, but all in all I don’t think this team has the rest of the tools in place right now to succeed even with a healthy Baron Davis.

The Lakers scored at will against us last night.

The defense we showed in the closing minutes against he Celtics was fantastic. We defended the rim well and they turned the ball over uncharatersitaclly down the stretch.

But we played terrible defense in L.A. and Baron will not help with that.

All in all guys, most basketball fans should know that even with a healthy Baron, we still have a long way to go.

Anthony Randolph, while talented, has a loooooooooong way to go before he is a contributing member of a NBA rotation. Improvements by Biedrins, Belinelli, Wright will without question help to facilitate the offense with a healthy Baron Davis.

But it is basically the same team as last year, that struggled to win 48 games and couldn’t even get the 8th spot and couldn’t beat teams like Denver to save their lives. So in the tough Western Conference, I just don’t see a healthy Baron making this team a playoff contending team, maybe a better team, yes, but not a playoff winning team to get in the playoffs and win series’. And let’s face it, if we’re not playing for that, then what the hell ARE we playing for?

  • firethefrontoffice

We’ll take BD and give them Mags and Belli. Hell we’ll even take Camby or Kaman off their back.

Clippers – we will do you boys a big fat favor.

W’s front office – you have to pay to play in the NBA. Going rate for a decent PG in the NBA is about $10-15M per year – NO Starbury(just in case you were sleeping under a rock for the last 10 years).

  • Scotty

I would love to get B.D. back. I don’t believe for a second that Rowell would ever let it happen. That would be a huge concession on his part.

  • Earl monroe

Does it look to you guys like the Warriors are playing a bit too fast?
Many of the turnovers are happening at critical points in the game because
    players cannot react fast enough.

Only Bellineli looks comfortable right now.

The only player capable of playing at this pace is Ellis, and now that Davis is not
around to regulate the pace for everyone else, it looks like a machine out of control.

Maybe its mirroring the front office.

  • Brian Mastrangelo

if Maggette is a part of any deal the clipps wont do it.. they got rid of him for the same reason warrior fans and coaches don’t like him, all he cares about are his stats…dunleavy has hated him for years and was happy to get rid of him.. even though the thought they would get better than a PG that shoots 35% from the field i dont think this will happen, or even make sense..

  • jay

Bring Baron Back. I will have my son there with his sign tonight at the game.. BRING BARON BACK!!!!

  • Eric

Shut the hell up about waiting to build for the future. We’ve been saying that for 15 years
I want to win now and if Baron is going to get us back to the playoffs, lets do it.

With the product we are throwing on the court today, unless the warriors lower season ticket prices, I will not renew next year. I’m sure I will not be the only one.

While we’re at it, we need to fire Rowell and do whatever we can to keep Mullin.

  • Eric

Clip fan here. We’re very unhappy with BD, you can have him back. He shows flashes of greatness but he doesn’t really fit into our system.

    How bout this?

Jamal + Azubuke (we don’t want Maggette)

    for

BD + Jason Heart + 2nd Rnd Pick

  • serious W’s fan, not a band wagon jumper

I almost died when Baron signed with LA… I shouted with joy the day we traded Speedy and Dale Davis for him. My brother called me to tell me the news, we were jumping with joy, I found myself yelling for hours. Rob Rowell you son of bitch, you took away my joy after 13 years of suffering. I am the first person to tell you that letting Baron walk was a huge mistake, for the fans toture, for the team stupidity. Imagine if Baron was still here, Monte healthy and Andris’s emerging. We had something special for years to come. Instead Mr.Rowell buffed up his ego and destined the W’s back to cellar.

  • nycpdizzle

    Bring Boom Dizzle Back!!

I seriously doubt Rowell would consider this as it spells defeat on his part.

Trade Crawford and Williams to LA for BD
Trade Mags and future pick for Josh Smith

It’s all a dream but anything can happen =)

  • Joey

Baron and Camby for Maggs and Crawford. Sounds great!

  • Disgruntled Season Ticket Holder

J.A., I hear what you are saying. Even with Baron, the Warriors are not a championship contender. Agreed.

But let me say this, as a season-ticket holder who is paying a few thousand dollars this season to this f*&^-face that is Chris Cohan…

AT LEAST put an entertaining team that can compete night-in and night-out.

With Baron, I always felt the Warriors had a chance when the boys hit the floor. We weren’t the best team in the league, but I didn’t care. With him, that team always had a chance, which is what made their games exciting. And beacuse of that, when I was at the Arena, win or lose, it was a good time. I happily spent my money on parking, concessions, a t-shirt or jersey, season tickets, etc…

Now? I’m thinking to yourself, jeezus, I’m stuck with these tickets. I HAVE to go sit through 2+hours of dreadful basketball, spend another $15 on parking, $8 on a beer…

I don’t WANT to go to games… I’m OBLIGED to go to games.

When you pay good money to be entertained, (and let’s face it, that’s what this ultimately is), then damnit, you’d better put an entertaining product on the floor.

After over a decade of SUCK, Baron brought that. Seats were filling up at the Oracle. Their Season Ticket sales were higher than ever. How was that NOT apparent to upper management?

Anything short of Baron coming back (which is a long-shot, I know), and guaranteed, the majority of those Season Ticket Holders in Club 200, and behind the basket will be gone next year… myself included.

  • DPOY8384

Crawford dropped 50 the other day and we won, but it wasnt because of Crawfords 50. Crawford was hot all game long, but we were down by 3 in the 3rd until Nellie subbed Ronnie in and allowed him to play along side Biedrins. In a matter of minutes we took something like a 13 point lead. Point is, we suck on D and we suck at rebounding and Baron barely helps with either of those areas.

  • goingforthemoney.com

Folks lets face the facts. The W’s are who we think they are. A second rate franchise with an owner who doesn’t know the first thing about basketball. If you look at the team as it stands now, you can see that there is some talent on the team, but the W’s rarely see anything through. The simple fact of the matter is they had some good pieces in place and lacked a true power forward and depth on the bench. They should have kept baron in the first place and trade harrington. I like baron as much as anyone and believe they would be better off with Baron but it won’t matter if they done get a legitimate power forward and work from there.

  • PDX Raider

#38 correct. I also think Nelson has caught a senile bug from Al Davis. Play Randolph! he may be raw, but thanks to B.D. being gone, Ellis’ injury the season is a wash and Randolph with some experience and and a few poundscould be a great player. Maggette sucks(12 year old girl in a mans body). Get whatever we can for Bellinelli, Wright and Maggs.

  • ACC

    A definite YES!

To really get him back a trade scenario like this will solve 2 problems for the W’s:

    Trade to LA Clippers:
    Jamal Crawford
    Corey Maggette
    DeMarcus Nelson
    Anthony Morrow

    Warriors Get:
    Baron Davis
    Chris Kaman
    1st Round Draft for 2009

With this scenario, W’s get another low post player probably to compliment AB at PF and Ronny Turiaf backs up AB while Brandan Wright and Anthony Randolph as subs for Chris Kaman.

W’s don’t need Jamal Crawford now if they get BD. W’s already have a seasoned MB who can handle ball distribution chores should BD get injured or is resting plus they also have a battle hardened CJ Watson who is good for 10-15 minutes. They W’s will get more rebounds, and more assist with this trade scenario.

  • RedBully

The way I see it, the warriors have a seemingly decent offense scoring 100+ points per game, it’s just that all those points are useless if your giving up 120/game. Boom Dizzle, while still somewhat of a liability on defense, could help lower that hefty o.p.p.g. total with his superior offense. Think about it. I’ve witnessed BD being downright lazy on D, but with an able ballhandler, the dubs would have an easier time pushing the break, and their opponents would be scoring less in transition off of our sloppy play. Anyone who’s been watching the 49ers the past 3 years, can attest to the fact that having a sloppy/inefficient offense can contribute to an opponent getting easy scores just as much as a bad defense does. case in point BARON DAVIS= good for W’s

i expect BD wont play as good as last year if not much worse. but how is he playing now? is it really the clipper system or his age? do u really want to see BD 1 on 1 isolation and those jackson style 3s over and over again? this year is done and how will BD do next year? i dun so sure about we can win 48 games next year with a older BD.
do not shift away the W’s real problem. our team is young but we do hv vet… well… look at spur and how their young play.. well

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

    No.

  • J.A. (A.J.’s brother)

    “Kev”………I understood you until here:

“dun so sure about we can win 48 games next year with a older BD.
do not shift away the W’s real problem. our team is young but we do hv vet… well… look at spur and how their young play.. well”

What did you mean by your quote above………..maybe it’s time to take an English class, huh?…and then worry about blogging.

  • Ray

Please stop living in the past .All of you would bring Baron back and then realize oh he is done because he got his payday. What happened to developing Monta at the point ? is that on hold until Baron is gone in 4 years ?

Baron has a stacked squad and they are getting beat down everynight . They have 8 wins with Baron,Camby,Randolph, and Kaman . Are you kidding me ? thats a bigger indictment of BARONS ABILITY TO LEAD A FRANCHISE than anything else. Ill pass on bringing Baron back Ill rather focus on the youngsters and look at the future .

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

    Baron’s best is behind him.
It was very disappointing relative to his talent.

    So it goes.

Let the fat man collect his check in LALA.

  • ACC

BD’s stats are poor with the Clips is because its not his style of play. In the beginning of the season, CM already warned BD for a rude awakening.

A blog opened up by basketballbum suggest that we trade Ronny Turiaf, CM and Demarcus Nelson for BD and Chris Kaman.

I believe that you don’t need to trade Ronny Turiaf for Chris Kaman, but rather trade Jamal Crawford and CM for BD and Chris Kaman. Turiaf is the best defender the W’s have. Chris Kaman can sub for AB down low and each can play 24+ minutes on whoever plays better on certain nights. Big boon for AB. While Turiaf starts at PF and gets subbed by BW and AR. W’s don’t need JC anymore since they will be getting Davis and if Davis gets injured you already have a seasoned MB to distribute the ball plus a health ME. With this trade scenario the W’s solve 2 problems with one transaction. A true PG and another low post threat. With this trade, there will be a dramatic turn around with the W’s performance. The run and gun style is up and running but hopefully DN does not go back to his dreaded small ball. He has big men now to use at his disposal. My ideal line up after the trade:

    C: AB
    PF: Chris Kaman
    SF: SJ
    SG: ME
    PG: BD

    Immediate sub:
    C: RT
    PF: BW/AR
    SF: AR/KA
    SG: MB/KA/AM
    PG: MB/CJW

  • ACC

Also getting Kaman in the trade will do both teams a favor…player wise. The Clippers are stacked in the front court with Al Thorton and Marcus Camby while the W’s are stacked in the backcourt filled with shooting guards. W’s need ball distribution and rebounding while the clips need a scorer that fits coach Dunleavy’s style of set basketball…CM fits this system well.

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

Stephen Jackson sucks so bad. Why is anyone even bothering talking about him?

Oh yeah, because he’s a hilarious trainwreck of counterintuitive self-obsessed crazy idiocy.

  • RedBully

There are better options to go with for sure, but I don’t think he could make the current squad any worse.

The idea of Monta developing into a suitable pointguard is just as much of a fantasy to me as the notion that this trade would ever happen. his game is more athletic/chaotic and less efficient/creative, a style that is not indicative of your classic 1, which is what the warriors seem like they reeeeaally need.

  • Joe

Mully vs. Rowell in an UFC Octagon! Man that would be tight!

  • Mike in Atl

Only if ownership will make the commitment to try to win it all. That means: Sacrificing almost all the young talent to get the 4th piece.

    BD
    ME
    SJ

isn’t enough to win it all. They need a bruiser inside (Boozer is a FA this offseason). So they’ll need to make some deals, relieve some cap space and then they have 2 or 3 years to try to win it all before BD’s knees give out. I say do it but only if you’ll do it all the way this time.

And by the way, I think BD, ME, SJ and boozer can win it all with the right bench players.

  • nickj

You Damn right! It was a HUGE mistake to let Davis walk in the first place & to see how far off the tree we have fallen. Time to make it right on all ends.

  • G

Some of you proposed some nonsense for BD, but I’LL DEFINATELY TAKE HIM BACK!!!
BD FOR MAGGETTE, AND NELSON/Kurtz(but i rather keep Kurtz).
Keep Crawford, Belinelli, Monte, Azabuke, and CJ Watson and add BD.
DEFINATELY KEEP RANDOLPH AND WRIGHT!! U’d have to be STUPID to let them go!!

  • J.A. (A.J.’s brother)

Scoring 100+ points a game and shooting 35% from the field are 2 different issues.

You can have a terrible shooting game and still score over 100 points.

I think some Warrior fans struggle to understand the importance of shooting at a high clip.

you cannot consistently win in this league shooting below 40% for a game and the Warriors do that all the time whether they score 100 points for the game or not.

You definitelly ain’t gonna win no Championship shooting like that.

Just because you score 100+ points a game, doesn’t mean the offense is “peaches and cream.”

We didn’t break 100 last night against L.A, we barely broke 100 a few times on the recent road trip and for most of the road trip we shot less than 40 %.

Those issues will have to be addressed as well along with hoping Baron comes back.

Devin Harris, Tony Parker are all PGs who not only play the PG position well, but also shoot above 42% from the field. Baron is sub 40% so far this year.

  • Al Oha

Most of you are delusional at best. Longing for We Believe excitement with an older, fatter (4.5 year contract still in hand), Baron is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN as long as Robert Rowell has any say so.

What hasn’t been mentioned is that Baron is the one who outed Rowell to the press that Mullin and BD had agreed to contract terms to keep him here and that RR nixed the idea. That leak has made RR the bad guy to us fans and exasperated the growing rift between RR and Mullin and thus started the inevitable ousting of Mullin by RR and the grabbing of power by Nellie in that vacuum.

What has followed has destroyed the W’s future in the extension of Nellie and unnecessary extension of Jack. The two most street-wise dudes in the organization took advantage of the li’l twerp who needed a friend. They kissed his ass and coaxed longer term contracts before it was necessary.

In Nellie’s case, the thinking may have been that with a longer term contract, he would develop the youth instead of trying to win now and thus wearing down his core (the real problem with his coaching in the last 2 years). Wrong. He still would wear down his vets, if they hadn’t gotten injured, the youth still would be stuck to the bench. At least Nellie’s contract doesn’t count against the player’s salary cap.

In Jack’s case, RR turned a very valuable and tradeable contract, which expired in 2010 (FA bonanza year), into a worthless untradeable contract that nobody in their right mind would want. Just plain senseless. He should be fired for that move alone. But nooooooooo, he wasn’t nearly done.

The well-known recap of what has happened since the last game of last season reads like a how-to on what NOT TO DO to an up-and-coming franchise. RR seems to have single-handedly turned our once-promising favorite BB team with a roster of good young talent and a franchise poised contractually-wise to take full advantage of the upcoming FA grabs, and turned this into a disaster rivaling the most bleak of the Chris Cohan years.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that the damage is repairable because our front office is not the only one who is inept and clueless. The future will be determined by the moves made in the coming new year.

Having said all that, I like BD and the “juice” he brought to this team and the Bay Area. But it is all relative, to what was here for 13 years and what was here the last 3 months, which has been pretty depressing.

Relative to the championship run of ’74-’75 it pales in comparison.

The Giants should bring back Barry Bonds before the W’s bring back Baron. They need BB more.

Now if bringing back Baron involved getting rid of Robert Rowell, which it would have to, I’m 100% for that.

  • chikago

    i think rowell sux

  • Bryan

I loved BD and I miss him, but it was a bad ending. I dont know how most fans would take to having him back, but i would have him back. I’m still bitter and I still hate him, but if he came back I think I could put it behind me..

    WE BELIEVE 2.0
    &
    FEAR THE BEARD 2.0

  • BF

I would definitely like to see Baron back. He shouldn’t have left in the first place. Rowell doesn’t know what he’s doing and I KNOW he realizes he made a big mistake. Leave Mullin alone and let him do his job. If Baron comes back, for Magette, you will see and almost instant turnaround. Even with this unbalanced roster. Baron would make that much difference with this team.

  • Derek

Fans attending Warrior games, chant for BD, maybe Cohen will hear.

  • hella frustrated

for all the good and bad that comes along with him, i do want baron back.

i DON’T want to hear ralph whine about it all day about it though.

  • Ewok

No offense but the question is not really a question.

My gosh look at the organization back then and look at us now.

The question of having him back is misnomer.

    BDiddy brings Chemistry and leadership.

BDiddy, Monta and Crawford will make the backcourt solid. Actually the best in the league.

It was a big freaking mistake to let him go.

    Get him.

If Randolph and Nellie aint happy together, then that’s the trade, add in Watson.

But the biggest concern I have is that if we don’t make a move on Thabeet. That would be the final straw in my patience.

  • Desperate

This article is such a tease!! Why get our hopes up?? Haven’t W fans suffered enough? Cohen and Rowell would never let this happen.

  • 1rabidwarriorfan

yeah!bring back baron! while we’re at it, let’s bring back c-webb! woo hoo! good times!

  • Robert Rowell

You damn right Ro Ro messed up this team!!

  • Dave

Jackson can talk all he wants to, but there is no way this could happen because Rowell would have to admit that he screwed up by letting Davis walk in the first place, and also that Mullin was right to negotiate an agreement with Davis, that Rowell later turned down. Not to mention extending Nelson, Jackson and throwing money at Maggette, Arenas, and Brand to try and cover his butt.

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

    I did it.

  • http://Yahoo pkf

Trade Mag & Jamal & Kurz for BD & Camby. That would give the Warriors a chance to win.

  • Corey

I would love to get baron back, but it aint happening. The best scenario for the future is that Robert Rowell gets fired, Don Nelson gets fired, Chris Mullin gets promoted to the official GM position, we get rid of Magette, and crawford comes off the bench behind Monte and Belinelli.

  • A’s in 2009

    Rowell has no power.

  • brent

    Marcus,
a little off your topic above, but beyond brandan wrights defensive lapses, can he become a better rebounder with more playing time or is it strictly a work on it in practice thing, I would guess a little of both. But him only playing 7 minutes does not give much indication whether he can or not. Also was Hendrix strictly a money move because how could it have to have him play out the season in Bakersfield and see how he progressed or is there a Chris Porter story behind him?

  • kike yanez

bring back baron an bring back the city jersey’s they sell like hot pancakes! get rid of the jersey an logo we have now lets give the warriors n the warriors fans a fresh Look a new refreshing beging

  • Mr. B

    From the LA Times….

No, I don’t want out,” he told The Times on Monday at practice. “I don’t know what Stephen Jackson got from my conversation. That never came out of my mouth.

“I’m here. I’m here doing the same thing I did at Golden State. The first year I got to Golden State it was rough. It was a tough season. We were figuring each other out, figuring out the system. That transition year is always a tough year.

    Somebody is yankin somebody’s chain….

  • Le

    Al Oha #64,

    Love your post!

Folks going to the game should holds signs and chant
“Bring Back Baron” and then “Fire Rowell”!

  • Le

    Mr. B,

What did you think Baron would say, “yeah, I said that… so what”?

  • Robert Rowell

This team is going down on Ro Ro’s watch.

  • Tim1234

Bring Back Baron!! I hope the people at the games get the message.

  • Mr. B

    Le,

    The simple answer is yes.

BD wants back in the Bay Area or is unhappy with his coach or team, then say so. Stephen Jackson would not and should not put his friend in a bad situation especially if it ain’t true.

What would be the whole purpose of this talk about BD wanting to come back to the Bay Area? Start a rumor and nothing materializes?

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

    Rowell has no power.

  • J.A. (A.J.’s brother)

I heard they ARE working on a new design for a team logo and jerseys.

I heard that it’s gonna be more like the “City” jerseys with some cable car and bridge stuff, but it looks like by next year we will have a completely different logo, that should be exciting.

Hopefully it’s more on the lighter blue and yellow background, I like that better than the dark blue, orange and gold.

Anyway, there is not 1 single player I get more pleasure out of watching have a big game than #18 MArco Belinelli.

Belinelli is everything we wanted Mike Dunleavy, JR. to be.

Belinelli plays an excellent “floor game” as they say in the NBA.

His confidence, the way he facilitates the offense, his versatility is absolutely fnatastic.

I knew this guy was gonna be a basketball player.

He is typical of most European players, he is a fantastic young player, we are lucky to have him.

I hope Belinelli and Wright continue to develop and receive the opportunities from management and more importantly, the coaching staff, to excel in the NBA.

  • Andre Aldridge

We struck “gold” with Marco Belinelli, Warrior fans.

Nice to see that we are starting to have some luck too when it comes to drafting talent, unbelievable. We’re the ones usually stuck with the “busts” while other teams improve.

Between Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli, Anthony Randolph and Anthony Morrow, if given the opportunity to develop, you have a potentially fantastic young core.

  • Pete Smith

    Hell yeah!

  • blah

Jackson for BD. How about that?

What a captian he is. How would you feel if your his teamate? How does that make Crawford/Magg’s feel about fitting in to this team. You think Jack’s helping team chemistry? My god.

Notice BD quickly dismissed Jacks comments. Even if it was true he wouldn’t want his team to hear that.

I think Jackson is the problem. We have enough SF on the team, we could do with out him and his cancer comments.

Keep Crawford. Let’s see how he plays with Ellis. We don’t know yet. They might be a better back court than BD and Ellis. Any trade we make needs to be designed to be bigger and tougher defensively and on the boards. Adding a power forward or another center that could put Ronny at PF is what we need. NOT another Guard.

Come on Dub fans, let’s move on already.

  • NotaNelsonfan

Probaly won’t happen. It’s just Jax talkin. Don’t count on much. There has to be more in this trade than BD. Better get a bigger body for defense.

    Think of it:
Will bringing Barron improve our defense?
Will this move become the BD and Jax show?
How many more healthy years does BD left?

Don’t get me wrong I like both Jax and BD when they play along with teamwork with the other three on the court.
Ask yourself this question: How many times where you pissed when W’s played d ran back on offense only to see BD or Jax just jack up shots? And thats not all their fault that’s our IDIOT coach Nellie giving them the thumbs up to do it.

I think if we did not have this set back with Monta opinions MAY be different. Were 10-22. What if we had Monta from the get go and we were 15-17? Or maybe a game or so above 500 or below?

I cannot blame any true W fan to want BD back and to see more wins than losses.

This season is gone for the W’s and we all know their not making the post season. Write it off already. BD will not get us to the post season.

If we got BD, fans would go crazy to see him and Jax making shots. But again W’ weakness is horrible defense and run and gun Nellie mentality.

Play the younger players more and develop them. Build for the future, and accept the loses this year thats all we can do.

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

Mike Dunleavy, Jr. >>>>> Marco Belinelli

Not close. Not close at all to the NBA at large. In Oakland, folks have trouble thinking straight about basketball. It’s to be expected.

This will make sense to fairweather bandwagon dweebs as the New Year comes around and Maggette, Ellis, and Dunleavy are all healthy again.

  • Andre Aldridge

I know their not close stupid,…..read my post……..I’m saying that the way Belinelli is playing now is the way we wanted Dunleavy to play for us…..stupid.

  • Andre Aldridge

Does it sound like my post is coming from a “fair weather” fan…..stupid ass?

What have you contributed to these blogs but your gay 1 line posts that have nothing to do with basketball.

I don’t care people think I have anger issues and I could care less what you guys think of me, …….fuck that faggot Chris Cohan and his gay posts!

  • Andre Aldridge

“This will make sense to fairweather bandwagon dweebs as the New Year comes around and Maggette, Ellis, and Dunleavy are all healthy again.”

What the fuck did you mean by the quote above, I mean I’m still trying to understand it.

Can you read and write English?

Do you have a learning disability or ADHD?

Are you mildly retarded in any way?

Funny part is, a lot of people hate my guts on this blog and probably some people will back you up “Chris Cohan” and go against me.

For those people, I want them to read your stupid quote I just posted on my post so they can know what loser they will be supporting, defending and backing up.

Because I know it’s coming, someone should be attacking me very shortly on this blog and defending you instead, to that person I wish nothing but a terrible death!

  • Mr. B

I agree that Belinelli is playing well and has good floor game and basketball sense. I must admit that its looking like I was wrong to write him off and advocated trading him away.

Shows two things in this league.

    1. You have to season the rookies into playing in the NBA

    2. You have to give them a chance to showcase their talent by playing them in the league and not just in practice or the D-league.

Good luck to Marco and I hope he continue to play well and make significant contribution to this team.

  • Mr. B

    Notanelsonfan (Post #92),

I don’t know that I agree that this season is gone. I thought that too last week but Stephen Jackson made a good point. The teams in the West are not really pulling away in terms of their Win records. Only the Lakers are doing well.

If the W’s could hold on for a bit longer until some help arrives in the form of Monta, we may have a chance to sneak into the playoffs.

This is wishful thinking but crazier things have happened. Look at the San Diego Chargers for gosh sakes. Does not mean we will advance into the next round but it is a building block for this team.

  • OliverStone

    MARCUS…

There no place on a civil blog for posts like #95!

  • http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/ Chris Cohan

  • Melba

What fan wouldn’t want Baron back?? Stop the politics and do what’s best for the franchise. BRING BARON BACK!

  • http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2008/12/28/b-diddy-wants-back-in/#respond zgoddbap

Bring Baron back-and if Monta is still a month away like Nelson has said our season is over.

  • http://www.ibabuzz.com branden

I WANT BARON BACK BUT THINK ABOUT IT THATS A BAD TRADE COREY MAGGETTE AND PROABLY JAMAL CRAWFORD FOR BARON C’MON. SURE THOSE TWO ARE BOTH UNCONSISTENT BUT WE HAV A GREAT BACK COURT MONTA,COREY,STEPHEN,AND JAMAL AND IF WE TRADE THOSE TWO FOR BARON ITS GOING TO BE LIKE LAST YEARS TEAM. ALSO WITH NOT AS GOOD OF BENCH WE HAD LAST YEAR. ITS JUST OUR MANAGEMENT THATS JACKED UP, CHRIS MULLIN DID HIS PART WITH THE TEAM AND ROBERT ROWELL HASN’T. WE WOULDN’T BE GOING THROUGH ALL THIS IF WE WOULD’VE JUS GAVE BARON A DAMN CONTRACT EXTENSION AND BEEN NICE PEOPLE TO BARON BUT NOW WERE CONFUSED AND DON’T KNOW WHO WE ARE. THOSE ARE THE BAD THINGS ABOUT THIS . BUT THE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS IS WE GET LEADERSHIP AND THE MISSING PIECE TO OUR MESSED UP PUZZLE. AND IF THE OWNER OF THE CLIPPERS REALLY IS A FAN OF MAGGETTE THEN JUST TRADE FOR MAGGETTE NOT JAMAL TO. IF THEY GET JAMAL AND COREY THE CLIPPERS COULD ACTUALLY GET IN THE PLAYOFFS. IT WOULD BE COREY, JAMAL,ZACH RANDOLPH WHO HIM AND JAMAL USED TO PLAY WITH EACHOTHER,MARCUS CAMBY,AND PROLLY RICKY DAVIS. THAT’S ONE HELL OF A TEAM RIGHT THERE AND IF THE WARRIORS GET BARON IT WOULD BE BARON,MONTA,STEPHEN,ANDRIS AND AT PF ? RONNY TURIAF? NO HES NOT A GREAT SCORER AT ALL, GOOD ON THE DEFENSIVE END BUT NOT OFFENSE. THATS WHERE I THINK WE SHOULD’VE TRADED AL HARRINGTON FOR ZACH RANDOLPH THEN THE WARRIORS WULD BE SO MUCH BETTER THEN THEY ARE NOW, THEY WOULD GET REBOUNDS MORE IF THEY WOULD’VE GOT ZACH RANDOLPH AND 2 GOOD POST SCORERS BUT NO WE GOT SMALLER AND THAT’S WHERE MANAGEMENT FALLS INTO. MISSED OPPURTUNITIES. PERSONALLY IF I WAS CHRIS MULLIN I WOULD’VE TRIED MY HARDEST TO GET ZACH INSTEAD OF JAMAL!
WELL THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY AND HOPEFULLY WE COULD TURN IT AROUND. GO WARRIORS!!!

  • NotaNelsonfan

    Mr B.
You really think the W’s got a real chance for the playoffs still? After watching the past two games, I don’t think so. Losing to OKC then tonight against Minnesota?
If we did by a longshot made the playoffs as the last spot, don’t think we can pull another miracle.

Im not here to rip anyone, except talking stink about that idiot coach of ours. You see the look of our guys tonight? LOSERS!! I really feel for them. Nellie is NO leader and neither is Jax. It was really apparent in tonights loss. No high fives nothing!

I guess AR is in the doghouse again. Nellie won’t play him. He started Kurz over him, although Kurz did not do that bad. W’s shot decent in the first half than stunk during the second half in shooting. Which means as we all know no shooting another LOSS.
Could of been worst for AR if Nellie would have put him in with less than a minute in a loss cause game tonight.

Nellie settled with Cuban got his extension with the W’s. and now is set. He really looks like a coach that doesn’t give a shit about this team. We as fans pay to watch his horrible street ball coaching is a slap in all W fans face.

Maui is more on his mind than winning thats for sure.

  • Mr. B

    NotaNelsonFan,

One night I feel like we have a chance but the light keeps getting dimmer each game they play. I am a hopeful Warrior fan and believe any day now the team will turnaround.

Its all too hard to swallow that just last year we did pretty well and almost made the playoffs again.

I don’t know about Nellie just kickin back and collecting his paycheck. I have to believe that the seasoned man has some pride left in him.

    You maybe right. We’ll see.

  • The Seer

Remember fans who makes the decisions on this dysfunctional mess, Bobby Rowell, the suit who’s ego is bigger than the team and therefore we are screwed until Cohan wakes up and gets rid of this egomanical stooge, Rowell..

    Baron will not be back!!!

  • GSW

    i want it to happen

  • Le

Charllote wants Randolph or Wright for Felton?

    http://nba-rumors.blogs.sportsline.com/mcc/blogs/entry/10715084/12369414

  • Robert Rowell

Nothing here. On to NFL playoffs.

  • OptimisPrime

Stephen Jackson needs to be carful not to alienate Magette and his team for a very slim chance of getting Baron back.

Sounds like an unnecessary distraction for two struggling teams that have enough issues to worry about.

  • Rick Kamla

Who the hell is Raymond Felton for us to give up Brandan Wright (the guy they were willing to pass on to take Richardson in 2007-2008) and Anthony Randolph?

I think Charlotte is in even more of a desperate situation than we are. They don’t even know what they want.

They trade their first round pick (Brandan Wright) to Golden State in 2007-2008 for Jason Richardson.

Then turn right around and trade Richardson 1 year later after hiring the greedy, disloyal bastard Larry Brown.

Now Brown has ousted Richardson and blacklisted Felton and Sean May ( I understand he’s out of shape).

But the point is, don’t get involved with a deal with Charlotte. Charlotte is probably gonna fold their tents as an NBA franchise, they don’t know what their doing.

A trade with Charlotte would be like the “blind leading the blind.”

2 garbage, loser organizations trying to make a deal……absolutely pathetic!

  • Rick Kamla

Wow……..look at all the lucky fans throughout the league enjoying the ascension of their young teams while our team can’t even get out of their own way.

Here is the list of “up and coming” teams that I was hoping we would be on this year, but the way it seems is that we will never be on this list:

    1. Portland – I was the first to downplay their “potential.” This teams is all about Brandon Roy and LaMArcus Aldridge. Greg Oden is slow, immobile and has absolutely no post moves, he is like Erick Dampier, but the team is doing better than I predicted.

    2. Orlando – Big 50 win season last year and continuing to grow with good coaching and good talent

    3. Denver – After getting Billups, didn’t predict the quick turn around

    4. Memphis – Has won some big games this year including 2 wins against our squad, who would you rather have …………….Gay, Warrick, Gasol, Mayo………or Wright, Ellis, Biedrins and Randolph?

I thought we would have been on this list as well.

I don’t want to complain and harp on negative issues, I think the talent is there and we could have success in the future, but as of yet, we have NOT found the formula for developing this young team.

  • NotaNelsonfan

No defense no wins. Oh well….. You gotta love Nellie. He says “I am no longer in charge of defense, I leave that up to Keith Smart and the other assistant.

What a frickin cop out remark. He ain’t got shit of a offense game plan to begin with. None, none at all!
And now wants to pass the defense schemes to the assitants? Really earnin your pay Nellie, way to go.

    Gotta agree with #105.

  • big dog

Give Marcus Williams some play time!!1Nellie you are a busta!!!!!!!!!! Stop hatin on the youngsta!!!!!!!

  • danikil49

Notanelsonfan has it right. Did you see Nelson put Wright back in the game against the T’wolves with 20 seconds remaining in the game. The whole fourth quarter and most of the third we were getting out rebounded and and how did Nellie react, he brought in CJ to replace Bellinelli. Randolph ,Kurz and Wright stayed on the bench while Nellie played small ball(loser ball) B. Diddy or not the quicker Nellie moves upstairs the better. And if anyone was watching the game last night you saw the W’s play much better without S. Jackson. This is no fluke. Jackson gums up the offense with his constant bickering with the refs because he held the ball too long and got his shot blocked. This is getting old.

  • Road Games are Killing Us!

Nellie moves upstairs?…….what happened last time he was GM for the Golden State Warriors:

He fueded with ownership and pushed for the movements of Chris Webber and Tyrone Hill, both became All-Stars after leaving.

Point is, I think the further Nelson is from the organization, be it coaching or GM, the better.

He is not cut out to make personnel decisions.

I agree about Jackson’s touches on offense hindering the offense. Because he demands the ball, he is our “go to guy.” While other teams have “go to guys” like Yao Ming and Kobe Bryant, we have Stephen Jackson (lucky us, huh?) He is the guy we turn to when we need a basket,….right? This hurts our offense because he is simply too much of a part of our offense. This guy was a veteran role player in San Antonio and the 3rs scoring option in Indiana behind Jermaine O’ Neal and Harrington.

Now all of a sudden he is a no. 1 option…….I mean it just don’t make sense. But when Monta gets back, Jackson will definitely be a no. 2 option. He is perfect as a 3rd option, that’s why it would be nice if any 2 combinations of the following players each score 20ppg: Ellis, Maggette, Azabuike or Belinelli, leaving Stephen Jackson as your 3rd option, maybe even giving him a couple games off or spot duty off the bench and start a young player.

  • http://?? Jerry

All I will say is that I would love for Baron to return to the Warriors. But I would like him to play the helpful way, that is as a true point guard. Pass the ball, help the young players and play DEFENSE. I know he can play DEFENSE when he wants to, and he can impose his will on the rest of the team..Thats the good Baron, the bad Baron is the guy that jacks up 3′s all over the court, doesn’t pass the ball or play defense. So which player comes back is important, the good Baron is great for the team and the city and the league.. PS..I hope it happens, he is the missing link to the team growing for the future..Good Luck..I LOVE THE TEAM AND I HOPE IT WORKS OUT…………….
