While Warriors management had already decided it wasn’t going to pick up the fourth-year option on guard Marco Belinelli, the same decision awaits on Brandan Wright. They have until Oct. 31 (technically, I think, it is the day before the season starts) to lock him up for 2010-11 at better than $3M.

So the Warriors did get some cash from Toronto, which did provide a financial incentive. Not much to dance in the streets about, but cash nonetheless. Every little bit helps these days, no doubt.

Also, Devean George is here to stay. The Warriors want George. They didn’t get him to buy him out. They feel like he might be able to contribute something because of his size and experience (went to three Finals with the Lakers). GM Larry Riley has wanted to add some veteran experience anyway. George, at his best, can stick the 3 and match-up against the difficult threes of the league like Ron Artest and LeBron James.
Of course, they are hoping to get the George from the Lakers. The George that was in Dallas was often hurt and hardly heard from. But if George has nothing left, not much is lost because he is cheap.

It can’t go understated, I don’t think, that the Warriors just traded out of a tough decision, perhaps a lose-lose. If they would have extended Belinelli on the 31st, that would’ve been a sizeable commitment for a guy who wasn’t going to play much. If they didn’t, they could’ve had a distraction on their hands all season. This would’ve been the story going into the season, that the Warriors have given up on Marco. Now, come Oct. 31, no one will be thinking on Belinelli.

The Warriors now have $9 million in expiring contracts (I mistakenly had close to $10M before, but that was because I had Acie Law down for $2.9 – what he’s set to make if the Warriors pick up the option – and not $2.2, which he will make this season). If they decide not to pick-up Brandan Wright’s fourth-year option, that number jumps to $11.7M in expiring contracts.

The Warriors cleared up some of the gluttony in the backcourt. I just confirmed through a team source that Marco Belinelli has indeed been traded to Toronto for swingman Devean George, as Yahoo Sports reported earlier.

So, I talked to Speedy Claxton today. He has every intention of coming to training camp and trying to earn a spot. He said he is healthy and ready to go after playing just two games the last two years.
Why does this matter? The Warriors have to move someone now.

First Anthony Randolph had his record-tying performance topped by teammate and friend Anthony Morrow. Now, he gets jobbed out of summer league MVP honors. Big deal? Not really. But it’s a dis nonetheless.

You probably heard by now that Anthony Morrow went for 47 in the Warriors’ finale at summer league. One night after Anthony Randolph tied the summer-league record with 42 points, Morrow one-upped his boy by going crazy with his outside shot. I wasn’t there, but I heard the gym was going crazy as he, for stretches, wouldn’t miss.
He was 18-for-26 from the field (69.2 percent), 7-for-9 from 3-point range. He also had 7 rebounds and five turnovers. He had 17 points in the first quarter and 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Warriors forward Anthony Randolph (sprained left wrist) and Cartier Martin (strained left shoulder) will not play in the final summer league game tonight.

Anthony Randolph should quit right now. He should turn in his summer league jersey and take a seat in the stands. He doesn’t belong in summer league.
It’s not that he got 42, but how he got it – doing whatever he wanted. I lost count, but he had several dunks. None better than his throw down over some dude name Zeller, with the foul.
Steph Curry: “I’m definitely watching SportsCenter tonight.”
I really wished the Warriors played the Clippers. I want to see him and Blake go at it.

* The Warriors had the full roster tonight and they smashed on Detroit handily, by 28 points. Stephen Curry, Anthony Randolph and Anthony Morrow combined for 61 points on 21-for-44 shooting (47.7 percent). The Pistons finished with 69 points on 24-for-66 shooting (36.4 percent).
Curry’s looking like a volume shooter. He was 7-for-19, which isn’t bad, but isn’t exactly efficient. He’s still missing some good looks. Morrow is no doubt the better shooter right now, in my opinion. Curry may have more range and be better at making shots with a high degree of difficulty, however.

* Randolph had a fat gash under his left eye. He sat out the entire fourth quarter. Am I the only one thinking he probably needs to shut it down? In three games, he’s totaled 65 points, 31 rebounds, 9 blocks and 5 steals. Is he benefitting from this?

* After the game, Curry met with Warriors owner Chris Cohan and president Robert Rowell behind the closed curtains in the makeshift locker rooms

* Cartier Martin continued to ball. He may not be available for the Warriors, who don’t have a roster spot open at this point. All the Warriors have is a training camp invite, but Martin might get a contract.

* Speaking of contracts, Jermareo Davidson may be playing himself outta one. His deal is only partially guaranteed. He only played 2:50 Monday, which probably means they are down on him right now.

* I keep hearing Drew Gooden’s name linked to the Warriors. Not from the Warriors end yet, so I wouldn’t put much stock in it.
