Udoh Surgery on Wednesday to Repair Torn Ligament

Warriors rookie power forward Ekpe Udoh will have surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist.

It won’t be known officially how long he is out until after the surgery. But based on the type of surgery, 4 to 6 months is the ballpark, which has been reported. Rehab usually takes about three to four months after the surgery. But it all depends on how well the surgery went and how well the wrist heals.

The surgery will be performed in San Francisco by the same doctor who evaluated Udoh today. It was his second evaluation. He was also evaluated on Friday in Los Angeles. Udoh is expected to miss training camp.

  • TheLastWarrior

Wow, what a set back…hopefully its 4 months…6 months and his season is over…

  • Fierce South

This sounds like it could be a wasted season for Udoh due to missing Summer League, training camp, and the first half of the season. Also, Udoh isn’t going to be able to lift weights for awhile.

This is an issue because Udoh needs to put on more muscle on his wiry frame. I doubt he’ll get much playing time unless one or more of the bigs get hurt. I guess we won’t see what Udoh is really capable of until the 2011-2012 season when he’ll already be in his mid 20’s.

  • TheLastWarrior

    B. Wright, Randolph, Udoh all have what in common?

    Skinny and injured.

  • Fierce South

Greg Monroe looked decent in his matchup against D.Cousins today in summer league. His low post moves and his speed on the fast break are underrated. It would have been intriguing to see a lineup of Monroe at Center and David Lee at Power Forward in the regular season…

  • ArmChair GM

There are more moves in store.

  • ArmChair GM

Monta and Biedrins are next on the trading block.

With Monta it is wise to wait for something of significant value before initiating a trade. For all of you that are so eager to trade Monta, keep in mind that regardless of how we may feel about his attitude or personality, he is one of the premier scoring guards in the league.

A trade of Monta for Mayo and Thabeet is not good for a team that is trying to win now. Mayo is a downgrade from Monta and Thabeet is a project that is worse than both Biedrins and Gadzuric at this point.

Unless Monta is included in a package to secure Carmelo, Yao Ming, or Al Jefferson, it is wise to keep Monta, and see what he and Curry can do when they are both healthy and have a capable front court supporting them.

  • Hook Mitchell

Where/when did Udoh hurt his wrist?

So our current PF depth is David Lee… B Wright with a sore shoulder and Udoh with a hurt wrist?

    Bring back Anthony Tolliver.

I wouldn’t mind Stromile Swift on the roster.

An earlier trade for Yi Jilian would have suffice.

We need another body or two or three at the PF position.

  • deano

Poor Udoh. This will make it hard to convince him that the Warriors are not cursed.

  • A’s in 2010

Poor Warrior Fans. We don’t deserve this.

  • Dubfan

The only saving grace could be that he got hurt so early yhat he might come back and be able to have most of his season left…if he is on the short side of the recovery window. But it’s just craziness, again. And with b. Wright, you’d have to think they had/have reason to believe he is fully recovered or they would nit have gotten rid of so Many bigs. Sigh!

  • barrys boy

i was at the game sat against det. b wright looked good until he got in some traffic. i cant believe this is what we got for J rich ( not to b confused with the current j rich on the summer league roster)!he looked scared.. david lee will not be enough. btw what was wrong with curry/turiaf pick and roll? looked good to me last year.
AR is gonna kill it for the knicks and haunt us………

  • Sleepy Freud

Its all good. We have DLee and DWirght on board and now I htink we will resign Tolliver. Heal well Udoh!

  • A’s in 2090

A’s suck and so do We Believers11.1

  • TheDubFan

Hey Arm Chair GM…just what moves are those? What moves are going to made that is going to make for the 6th pick in the draft being out 4-6 months, Brandon Wright with a sore shoulder, and really nothing of much more value. Onta for who? Big Al? I wouldn’t want that deal and I don’t want even want Monta on the squad.

    This is ALL, all bad.

  • playoffbound

Monta is not going anywhere… Not this season…

  • A’s in 2010

Now we get to see him sport a wonderful suit while rotting on the injured list all year.

    The front office is joke.

There’s a rumor Udoh was hurt even before the draft. Terrific.

  • ArmChair GM

    Dub fan…

Right now we are looking at a starting 5 of

    D Wright
    David Lee

That is a highly competitive starting 5 and probably a 10th seed in the Western Conference as currently constructed.

The bench right now in my opinion looks like

    Williams/D George

Udoh should be back strong by the All Star break, but we will need to be patient with him. He has a lot of potential coming off the bench when finally healthy.

  • Jeremy

Makes the Udoh over Monroe look even worse between this and the D Lee trade.

  • JimPunkrockford

i don’t think it is a rumor, he had an undiagnosed injury, right? add this to biedrins camp being very upset about his misdiagnosed abdominal strain last season make me think a new medical staff might be as important as a coaching change.

  • Hook Mitchell

    Seriuosly tho…

Can anyone tell me when/where Udoh hurt/injured his wrist?

Only healthy PFs on roster is David Lee unless you consider RadMan a viable option.

Brandon Wright seems even more injury prone than Jonathon Bender !!!

  • ArmChair GM

Udoh over Monroe was a very poor decision, because Center was an area of greater need for us than Dower Forward.

Biedrins is not the answer at center, that’s why we lobbied so hard to get Demarcus Cousins.

    Poor decision by Riley.

On the flipside, the acquisition of David Lee and D Wright were excellent moves.

If I were to grade Riley right now overall, I would give him a C+/B-.

  • ArmChair GM

Excuse me meant to say “Power Forward”, not “Dower Forward.”lol

  • Hook Mitchell

    I was highly intrigued by Jonathon Bender’s size/length talent/skillset.

    Just couldn’t stay healthy.

Would have been a joy to watch even if he avg lower than 8ppg and 5rpg.

  • ArmChair GM

The Warriors are actually trying hard, behind closed doors to get Yao Ming to come to Oaktown. Whether or not it is successful, remains to be seen, but they are trying.

Houston is on the decline, and would rather do a trade and get something in return for Yao, then lose him next season for nothing the way that we lost Baron Davis 2 seasons ago.

Both Yao and Carmelo are in the same situation contractually, and they are both unhappy on their current teams. It is for those reasons that their names have even been remotely mentioned as possible destinations for the Warriors.

  • Cleve Yu

Although not applicable in this case, but for the most part, the reason why the warriors are always hurt is because of Nelson’s style of playing small ball. When you have a 6’6 forward going against a 6’10’ center, getting hurt is just a matter time.

  • TheDubFan

    Arm Chair GM-

You and I are in totally different worlds. If you like that starting 5, we have MUCH different views of NBA basketball. That team could not stop a high school JV team. Do you really believe the hype that D Wright makes us an automatically better defensive basketball team? D Lee is an ATROCIOUS defender. Unless, he was in Dolan’s office specifically being asked to not play DEF (read the sarcasm here), he is by nearly everyone’s account…an awful defender. We know Biedrens can’t play def and Monta plays def once every 3 weeks. Steph is Steph.

This team is essentially at least as bad on def (without Udoh) as it was last year. Look, I’m not trying to get in your grill. Sry, if it comes across that way. But GSW fans have been so ruined by this ownership group that they have forgotten what quality basketball is. Yes, the media here is a part of the problem propping up all these d-leaguers, but there is a reason there are not FANTASTIC stories about the d-league developing players. GSW fans are NUMB to the crap teams that get put together at the Orena.

Carmelo is not coming here unless something truly amazing happens. Would love to eat my words, but it’s not happening. This is a new era and guys know that when they are going to become FA’s, they can talk to each other. CP3 and Melo to the Knicks next summer. Mark it down. The NBA will have the balance of power shift back to East Coast and the Miami/NYC rivalry the NBA has always wanted will be back on.

NOTHING drastic is happening with this team until they force it to happen. And the new mgmt group is going to have its work cut out for it with a potential stadium deal and ironing out 1st year wrinkles to really move things forward. This is a well below average squad.

In the West that squad is maybe better than Minnesota, New Orleans, and maybe Memphis. The Kings are about to speed by us GSW fans. Don’t blonk our you’ll miss `em.

  • robert rowell

here’s some FA’s we can get to fill in our monster talent gaps (in no particular order)

    *acie law
    *larry hughes
    *kwame brown
    *adam morrison
    *dj mengba
    *brain cardinal
    * ike diogu (i heard he was a draft day steal)
    * allen iverson

ok, that was pure sarcasm, expect AI. i threw him in b/c he’s my favorite player of all time, not because i expect the W’s to take a cheap gamble on having one of the most prolific scorers and ball handlers of all time come off the bench and act as a mentor to two guys already on the squad whose games are incredibly similar to his own. that would be silly.

  • Feekus

Major setback for the beginning of career forget how it impacts the team…you gotta feel for someone in this position. At this point beasley in a trade would be a sneaky move by the front office.

  • J-Walk

ArmChair GM, are you living on another planet. Nothing you have said makes any sense. Yao to the Warriors! Are you smokin’ crack. Yao isn’t going anywhere, and Houston certainly isn’t on the decline. Please stop saying Monta and Biedrins are next to be traded. With the moves they have made, it’s completely obvious that those two aren’t going anywhere. Get off the Biedrins isn’t the answer at center bandwagon. He was in the all-star discussion two years ago and had a sports hernia last year. Biens will be fine. Plus, if your gonna’ write out the roster, put the right names down. You missed B. Wright and Udoh off the bench, and you put down George, Watson and Tolliver who are not under contract.

  • ArmChair GM

    Dub Fan-

I understand and share your frustration with the way things have been on the Warriors.

But at the same time, to me defense has to do more with attitude than talent. You have to want to play defense, bottom line.

D Wright comes from a defensive mindset with Riley in Miami, and that attitude can be just as contagious to a team as Stephen Jackson and his negative attitude was.

I also believe that the improved rebounding, and limiting of an opponents second and third chance shot attempts, can compensate for some of the defensive weaknesses that we will have.

  • lazyboy recliner GM

  • haastheman

If the warriors traded for Yao or Mello with one year on their contracts, the second they had a small injury they would shut it down for the rest of the year and wait on free agency. However, at least we’d dump slaries and players will want to play with Curry. He’s one of those types of Point Guards.

  • ArmChair GM

Get your panties out of a bunch. You sound like Mel Gibson caught on tape right now.

I was projecting what our roster and bench could look like if certain low cost, low risk moves are made, looking at where we are right now, and what is attainable right now.

If Biedrins is the answer at center, why was Demarcus Cousins the main consideration. If you have an All star caliber center ready to play, injury free you don’t attempt to draft Cousins in the top 5-6.

Cousins wasn’t being looked at to come off the bench. He was being drafted to START.

Monta and Biedrins are the next two major pieces looked at to trade. Biedrins because of his horrible contract, and Monta because of his obvious malcontent, the majority of last season.

I am against trading Monta for anything less than a superstar or multiple VERY GOOD players.

Please go take your meds now, so that you can calm down.

  • Jeremy

While I think it is incredibly far-fetched that this would actually happen… Beidrins and Radmanovic for Yao works $$$-wise. Could give them a replacement at center and an large expiring contract, but prob have to throw a 1st rounder in for it to be considered.

  • Harp’s Dubs

The worst part of the Udoh injury is that we can’t use Brandan Wright as trade bait. He is now the back-up PF to Lee for the season.

If there’s even a remote chance we could get Yao Ming, we do it.
Monta, Biedrins and Udoh for Yao and Trevor Ariza.

Houston would have serious firepower with Monta and Kevin Martin along with noted defenders such as Battier, Hayes and Scola. They get Biedrins, who is a capable center, because they’re unsure if Yao will be healthy. They get Udoh, when healthy, who just came from Texas at Baylor.

The Dubs get Yao, who may or may not be healthy this year. If not, he’s ours to sign or lose in the summer of 2011. We also get a really good SF/SG in Trevor Ariza who is an excellent two-way player.
We’ll still have RadGad’s $14 mil next summer to get a stand-out wing.

We need to re-sign Tolliver and Hunter and sign Earl Watson to back-up Curry.

We need some more offensive firepower (keeping Morrow would have helped), but here’s our squad:

    PG – Curry/Earl Watson/Charlie Bell
    SG – DWright/Reggie Williams
    SF – Ariza/Radmanovic
    PF – Lee/BWright/Tolliver
    C – Yao/Gadzuric/Hunter

  • TownLove

Our Bigs are injury-prone and we need another big body for insurance. If they cant bring back Tolliver, they definitely need to bring back Matt Barnes. Hopefully that Morrow trade-exception can be used to bring him in.

  • ArmChair GM

    Harp’s Dubs-

I like the way you’re thinking. Especially playing D Wright at the 2.

He took Dwayne Wade’s spot several times in Miami when wade was hurt.
A 6’9, 6’10 guard who plays defense is a matchup nightmare for most guards in the league.

Similar to what OKC is doing with Kevin Durant.

  • ArmChair GM

Some people enjoy pessimism, just for the sake of being pessimistic. Like the saying goes, ‘Misery loves company’.

The Warriors are an NBA team, not a PAL league. They are the six largest basketball market in the country, are notorious for overpaying their players, and have arguably the greatest fans in professional basketball.

So stop all the, Yao wouldn’t come here foolishness, and this player or that player wouldn’t come here crap.

People forget, we almost got Amare Stoudemire last year. Our front office screwed that one up.

It’s a business. A lot of players go places that are not their first preference. But at the end of the day, as long as they are under contract and their check is on time, they will go exactly where they are told to go.

  • ArmChair GM

And yes, I agree that Yao coming here is a longshot. But it’s not impossible, and all I have said is that I know that Riley is on the phone trying to make that deal.

Yao is now backtracking on his earlier comment that he wants to stay in Houston. Now he’s saying that he wants to weigh his options.

If Houston strongly feels that he will opt out next season like Baron Davis did here, of course they will do a trade for him. And they would accept Biedrins and Radmanovic(who is an expiring contract) for Yao Ming.

It’s ok to dream people. It’s ok to think big.

  • ArmChair GM

I think Harps Dubs proposed a very good trade idea. Monta, Biedrins and Udoh for Yao and Ariza, actually sounds very realistic.

The main question I would have before I pulled the trigger on that would be Yao’s health.

It’s going to be an interesting off season.

  • ArmChair GM

    Just being reported…

Larry Ellison is the other finalist in the bid to buy the Warriors.

Two billionaires battling it out for the Warriors. Decision to be made later today.

Could the answer to our prayers finally be here. Either one of the two candidates would be a blessing over Cohan.

  • DKnight007

Letting their best shooter besides Curry go in Morrow is yet ANOTHER stupid move by the LOOOOUUUUSSY lame duck front office of the Warriors!

commenting here on your ellison story. When you say the winner could be announced as soon as Tuesday, do you mean TODAY? I can’t wait much longer!

  • DKnight007

Azbuke, Randolph, Morrow and Turiaf GONE for an overpaid David Lee and some scrub Wright??

    “Genius” moves! hahahaha….yeah riiiiiight!

  • WarriorDragon

No more tomahawk dunking for Udoh this coming 2010/2011 season.

  • WarriorDragon

GS won’t have Udoh for 6 months. It’s good GS pick-up David Lee. This is good timing.

  • WarriorDragon

I will tell this #32 GS will trade for Yao Ming in a heart beat. They will offer Biedrens and a filler, plus draft picks. I will not turn down a trade for a asian superstar 7’6 center double/double shot blocker player. Rockets will not dump his K IMO.

  • WarriorDragon

I know GSW TURN DOWN the deal of Biedrens for Kenyon Martin. GS do not need another PF.

  • WarriorDragon

Morrow is a project. GS will not match the K for a project. He is a good shooter. He is not an allstar quality player IMO.

  • J-Walk

    Arm Chair GM,

I’ve already taken my meds and I’m perfectly calm. Again, you state things that aren’t true. Cousins was being considered by the Warriors because he was the best player available at that draft slot. If Turner was projected to be there at 6 with Cousins then we could very well have been more interested in Turner. Point being, we weren’t interested in Cousins because we were hell bent on moving Biedrins. Also, Biedrins contract is not horrible as you state. In fact his contract is quite reasonable when you consider what other starting centers make across the NBA. If Biedrins can return to the form he was at 2 years ago, and can get back to shooting free throws at 60+ percent, then he will be a bargain. Monta being a malcontent is old news. In fact Riley just said on KNBR recently that he has spoken to Monta and he is realy excited about the moves the team has made and is eager to get back to playing basketball. Monta may still have some issues with Nelson, but Nelson has only one year left. Maybe not even that much if the new owner takes over soon.

Sorry if it sounded as if I was Mel Gibson-ing you. Wasn’t trying to.

  • J-Walk

Yao Ming is a guy who missed all of last season due to injury. A guy who gets hurt every season. A guy who is an unrestricted free agent next year. A guy who’s size directly results in him having multiple injuries and who’s body isn’t going to hold up much longer. To all those who think it whould be wise for the Warriors to trade away core players to obtain him, ARE FRICKIN’ CRAZY.

  • DKnight007

Azbuke, Randolph, Morrow and Turiaf GONE for an overpaid David Lee and some scrub Wright??

    “Genius” moves! hahahaha….yeah riiiiiight!

How desperate are you Warrior fans to actually think these moves were good ones??

    Keep reaching….

24 Hour Fitness slapped with discrimination suit…

This can’t be good news for a man trying to purchase an NBA Franchise.

Larry Ellison just moved one step closer to owning the Warriors.

  • Gunner

  • J-Wak

    Arm Chair GM,

Mastrov doesn’t own 24 Hour Fitness anymore. He sold it to a New York investment firm in 2005 for 1.6 billion.. He now owns a company that has alternative gyms which includ UFC and Yoga Works. So the discrimination suite won’t effect him. Regardless I think Ellison gets the team.

Once again, you state wrong information. I’m on your ass like stink on…

  • DKnight007

Something David Lee will never raise as a Warrior! LOL

  • warriorbeil

who the hell cares? Ellison will clean house…u really think Udoh will still be on the team? lol

  • ArmChair GM

J Wack(I thought it was J Walk) but at any rate…

You are correct about Mastrov. Incorrect about Biedrin’s talent and athletic benefit to the Warriors.

You are entitled to your opinion about the state of the team. But based on your man crush on Biedrins, and utter lake of belief or creativity, let’s all be glad you aren’t the real GM of the team.
