Hook Mitchell is right that the GROWTH and progress you can get from Curry + A Randolph >> the quick fix of high high $ guys like Lee and rent-a-Melo.

Once you lock in a high % of budget to a pair of F's who are below par on D, you have to somehow make the rest of the team VERY cost effective and able to cover up on D.

They likely result is you settle for role types who can't score and a thin bench and when all is said and done,MAYBE you have 4-5 years a bit above average.

Is that enough?

The Warriors are in no position to even trade ONE important asset....a starter or Udoh for the mere DELUSION that Melo, basically just a scorer,is enough of a savior to make GSW an instant contender. It's a lock he's just GONE next summer and likely would be wanting out before then.

Ellis got 25 ppg....Melo got 28. Ellis however also was #2 in the NBA,is perhaps the best #2 PG around, had 5+ asst and is underrated on D. MORE important....Ellis is younger and SIGNED and content to wear a GSW jersey.

The Groupie mindset GSW seems to have about whatever player is seen as a "famous celebrity" is a concern, and Riley takes that over the edge.

When GSW traded Murphy for guys to be dumped later...many said "good ridance...he's a weak link on D and a big salary. Now...his Clone (minus the 3 pt range) is the new "celebrity star" from "somewhere else". Like...that's gonna last for long.

Jackson,Crawford,Maggette were shoot a lot-score a lot....and bashed as NOT "all round". Monta gets bashed as "volume shooter".....as was J Rich.....Jamison...etc. WHAT DOES GSW WANT??????

Shooters/Scorers? Morrow was a VERY special "pure Shooter",Maggette ranked #7 in the NBA in points per minute with a 51% FG, Azubuike scored a lot per $ of salary and Tolliver was more productive than many of last years #1 picked rookies. Don't get me started on Randolph. GSW discarded shooter/scorer types like there was an endless supply, something this year will show is not the case. To OVERPAY to RENT a shooter /Scorer when the extreme instability, the blown away chemistry, the wholesale change in whatever the core strategy/tactics are, limits what's POSSIBLE...is sheer lunacy.

Not that that's gonna stop the Warriors from some token bullcrap scheme. Mass marketing and a clever facade is all these guys are looking at. There WAS a plan to at least TRY to build a CONTENDER patiently.

That's gone and lost.

Let's be clear, Carmelo's in the driver's seat. If he is traded anywhere with a sign and trade, he's making it clear he's going to try the waters of free agency. Every indication is that he's had his head turned by what LeBron, Wade and Bosh pulled off.

The last thing the Warriors need is a one year rent a player. The fact that he's an All Star only makes it worse if he walks.

Don't yourself, If the Warriors couldn't get Amare to sign an extension, what makes anyone think Melo would??
At this point id rather stick with the team we have this year and hopefully pick up our missing piece in next yrs draft or offseason. The problem with tradn curry or monta for melo is we are trading a star for a star, where id rather keep our stars and then add one more then do a swap, although with biedrins contract that cud b hard...we shall see...
