marcus- can you ask them/lacob: what the hell the lockout for when all that was accomplished was missing two months of games before coming to an agreement we all knew they would back in june?

i'd really love to know lacobs stance on the lockout issues.

or are we not allowed to talk about the lockout any more?

prediction: massive/ridiculous contracts handed out to undeserving players. wait, wasn't that what the lockout was about? DOH!

Yoda you're right! The only way out of this mess is to make some bold moves and not the same ol predictable, none impactful, to scared to be relevent moves. The Warriors have no reason to keep Biedrins. There is absolutely nothing he can do to help this franchise. We should be making room to get bigger and more talented on this roster. Character is great, but last time i checked talent wins championships. Get the picture.

Denver has absolutely no reason to take on Biedrins' contract. If they don't resign Nene they can simply hold on until next year with a high draft pick in a great draft and go the free agent route.

Monta needs to be moved just so Curry can have the ball in his hands and make the decisions and the W's need a bigger two who can defend. Iguodala would be great, but I don't think Philly does the deal. Monta isn't worth as much as W's fans (and scribes) seem to think he is. He certainly isn't going to bring back a big man.

Since anything but a top-7 pick is lost to the W's in what is shaping up to be a deep draft, they'd be better off moving contracts and tanking hard, but they won't do that either.

Basically they are going to be stuck sitting on their hands because of the Lee deal and their unwillingness to eat Biedrins' contract. You can't be bold and active without doing something bold and active, so don't look for much other than more of the same crap. Jackson can't turn this roster into a defensive club and they can't add significantly to the roster without some big moves that cost them.

The lack that vision thing.

Forgry the amnesty of Biedrins, use it on Charlie Bell. Convince Nene and Denver to do a sign and trade so that we send Biedrins and Udoh for Nene. Use the amnesty money for Brandon Roy and trade Monta not for Gay, but Andre Igoudala. That's a play-off squad, for sure:

PG - Steph Curry
SG - Dorell Wright
SF - Andre Iguodala
PF - David Lee
C - Nene Hilario
Off the bench: Brandon Roy, Klay Thompson, Charles Jenkins, Lou Amudnson, Jeremy Tyler

Although in theory I like the idea of trading Ellis for a big, in my opinion Gay is not the right guy, I don't like his mental makeup, I had the opportunity to watch Gay quite a bit last year on the NBA ticket, he has a tendency to fade in the fourth quarter, also he holds the ball quite a bit, defensively he will make spectacular plays once in a while mostly blocks but the rest of the time he is out of position and players not as athletically gifted as him blow by him. This guy is really athletic and can shoot when he is open, but overall Rudy Gay is soft. Paul Milsap would be the perfect player for the Warriors but he would supplant David Lee, if the team is really trying to get better and its not lip service then you need a guy like Milsap, a banger who will rebound and dig in on defense, having David Lee come off the bench would be a real luxury albeit an expensive one

But if Gay is the best player the Warriors can get for Ellis then they have to move Ellis, Jackson needs to forget about trying to coach Ellis for a few months before deciding wether to move him, Ellis and Curry should not be on the floor together, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know this, tape should tell Mark Jackson this

[...] Oracle Arena is Open Again. Let the Questions Commence - Inside the Warriors - with Marcus Thompson Q: What might it mean for the Warriors and who might they amnesty? A: It means more cap space to sign free agents, as Golden State will be hot on the market for a big man. Guard Charlie Bell, who has one year left for $4 million, is the leading candidate to be an amnesty waive. Center Andris Biedrins is “a distant second,” per one team source. The Warriors would only use the amnesty if they needed to and had an agreement in place. If they can get who they want without using the amnesty, a couple team sources confirmed they will wait and use it another year. Q: Who are the most likely free agent candidates to become Warriors at this point? A: It’s far too early to speculate on who the Warriors will actually land. But sources have confirmed what the Warriors are going after. Their top priority is a big man and on their wish list is Nene, Dallas’ Tyson Chandler, Memphis’ Marc Gasol and the Los Angeles Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan. To a much lesser degree, the Warriors also have interest in Samuel Dalembert, but only at a good price. Keep an eye on free agent center Chuck Hayes, an Oakland native who may be a sleeper choice at center, and free agent forward Thaddeus Young, who fits the Warriors style pretty nicely. Q: Will Monta Ellis be traded? A: Not before the trade deadline. It would take a monster offer for the Warriors to even consider it, and those offers aren’t pouring in. New coach Mark Jackson wants a chance to coach Ellis, so he will get at least the first few months. Golden State will no doubt listen to offers in February, or whenever the trade deadline looms (say if Chicago comes calling). Doubtful they would pull the trigger then either. __________________ [...]

Marcus,
Fantastic article. Very well-written, coherent, and realistic in every regard.

Maybe the team in Israel should retire Udoh's number, as Deron Williams' Turkish team is doing? (Just kidding, of course, but 22-16-4 is pretty decent against just about any competition.....)

You note that Thaddeus Young would fit the Warriors' style..... though you mention what Jackson has in mind, it's going to be interesting to see what the style really is going to be. We probably won't really know until at least a month into the regular season, given the short camp.

Again, excellent article.
