dkKnight #11…. Totally agree. Monte nailed this in his column. Lacob and Guber seem to be running like the Warriors like a college team and hoping facilities will help in recruiting. When you draft terribly and make horrible trades for decades, your arena and location don’t matter. Have good basketball people making wise basketball decisions, and you’re San Antonio or Oklahoma City. An Indiana-OKC finals would make this planned move across the Bay even look more ludicrous.

Im not trying to say SF crowd will compete with the enthusiasm levels of Oakland, or that games will be more exciting at all. Im just saying that the Hardcore fans are not going to pack up and leave because the team is making a move.

I would love the W’s to stay in Oakland, but im not involved in the arena talks, I dont know the hold ups, i dont know the offers. What I do know is that I am a W’s fan because they are my local team. I grew up and have many memories of Warrior games. I had one of my first dates to a Warriors game, eaten mass amounts of arena food and hung out with many friends at Warriors games. Im a Warriors fan for many reasons, none of them are because the Arena is in Oakland, or when Warriors were playing in San Jose. I’ll still be a Warriors fan when/if they move to SF.

“Hardcore” fans are not made because the Arena is in their side of the Bay, they are made from the experiences they have had with the team, and the love for the sport.

@#8 – Then why couldn’t they put the new stadium in Oakland, where fan attendance has never been an issue? They could have helped Oakland by putting the new stadium in there.

Instead, they completely diss the fans of the East Bay and look forward to sucking up to the rich, soft fans of San Francisco.

You cannot get any more hardcore than paying money to watch a team UTTERLY SUCK for three decades.

This is a whatever moment for me. This franchise still sucks right now no matter what big talk Lacob and Guber make about five years down the road. Why don’t you win some more games and sniff the playoffs before bragging about how S.F. is going to make this franchise relevant again? So far, the new owners have only been windbags and blowhards. Show us something on the court before you start proclaiming how great this new arena/location will be.
And I don’t care where the Warriors play. If they can start making the playoffs more than once in 20 years they can build an arena on the Tomales Bay waterfront and I’d be enthused. But Warriors’ fans who are excited about this news should check their coats at the door and head straight for the bar. These Warriors’ fans have supported the team when it sucked and sucked and sucked some more playing in Oakland. Where they play should be insignificant until they start making better basketball-related decisions and produce some positive results on the court.

There is no guarantee the W’s will be bring in high priced free agents once they move to the Pier new Arena.

Being a consistent WINNING franchise attracts high priced free agents…not a new Arena.

Common, lets be realistic, those “hardcore fans”, are not going to suddenly hate the Warriors for moving to SF. And why would you? If a new Arena in a location just miles away is going to help improve this team, help attract better players, then please go for it. The Fan base is not going to change because of that.

The team can do anything they want to help promote the W’s, bring in more money, and become a winning team, as long as the money goes to making the team better.

The fanbase is rooted in the East Bay and Tri Valley Areas for your information. Middle class folk.

This new Arena in SF pier will be catering to big rich corporations and the 1% basically.

The passion and energy that was brought to Oracle game in and game out will be gone once they move to the Pier. The East Bay/Tri Valley hard core REAL Warrior fans will be priced out of the new over priced season tickets at the Arena at the Pier and they will not want to travel that far to the traffic ridden City for a Warrior game…especially when they will still SUCK!

Big Corporate money will never replace the the real passion and energy the REAL East Bay and Tri Valley fans brought to the Warrior games at Oracle, even when the team sucked.

Once the new Arena in SF is built and Lacob does another slap in the face to the REAL Warrior fans by naming the team San Francisco Warriors (Ewww) I hope the team continues to suck (which they probably will) and then those fair weather corporate rich snobs stop showing up to the games, (unlike the loyal hard core East Bay and Tri Valley Warrior fans)

Lacob and Guber would have spent a crap load of money for the Pier Arena site and they will be in big time debt! hahaha
