Warriors in Talks to Get Hornets’ PG Jarrett Jack

The trade that sent Dorell Wright to Philadelphia morphed into a three-team trade last night, with the Warriors getting Jarrett Jack from New Orleans.

A source confirmed that the talks have progressed. But the source cautioned the deal was fragile and could fall apart. Wright would still go to Philadelphia. New Orleans would get a $5.1 million trade exception and Bosnian PF Edin Bavcic. Golden State would get Jack, one of the most respected little-known guards in the NBA.

Jack averaged 15.6 points and 6.3 assists last season for New Orleans.

Warriors reluctant to part with Edin ‘the Goonie’ Bavcic.

Jack has tweeted a goodbye note to NO fans, so it certainly appears to be on.

If this happens it’s a great deal for the Warriors. Jack for Wright. I like Rush and Jack coming off the bench. Once Rush is in the fold the Warriors are set in the back court. I guess this offsets the short lived cap flexibility.

sounds like a great deal.. this means no nate or cj… but would take Jack over both

  • grkstyles

now we need to round this FA period off with JJ Hickson.

  • manhttanproj

you won’t have money for hickson or anyone else. if the trade goes through, pretty much all the cap space is used up on rush and jack.

  • Impurvious Short

@Pointman lol! Bav-sanity is officially over.

  • cadan

jack is big upgrade over cj or nate, remember two games last year against warriors he posted 20 and 9 in one and a triple double in the other

  • cadan

plus hes 6’3 and almost 200 lbs much bigger and stronger

  • Young

Wow! Myers, that’s truly impressive! =)

    Go Warriors!

  • Xraided

    3.

not according to Steinmetz on 95.7 a little bit ago. he said this still allows them to go get another big guy without going into the luxury tax…

    i guess we’ll know soon.

Yeah Jack would be a nice addition! much better than Watson.

  • KC

Nice addition to backing up Steph and Klay. How does this addition affect the cap, does this mean they still only have roughly 4mil?

I take a pick for Bovoic. I don’t know why GS want to take Jack K. He’s not gonna start for GS with Curry in the roster. GS can play 2 PGs in the lineup if the trade go thru.

  • WaterSnake

OK… I see why GS need Jack. Curry is injury prone. GS need a PG to lob the ball to the high flyer Barnes. I say if he is in GS uniform, he need to be a passer, and not a shooter.

Xraided, ESPN says the Warriors wont have enough for Hickson: (from ESPN insider: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors/_/date/20120711#26094 )

“UPDATE: The addition of Jarrett Jack today puts the Warriors back up against the cap, which means several things.

For one, the team no longer has to worry about adding a backup point guard. Secondly, it almost certainly doesn’t have the cap space to sign J.J. Hickson, Antawn Jamison or Jordan Hill as a backup to David Lee.

As far as remaining free agents go, this move likely makes it harder for the Warriors to be able to match offers for RFA Brandon Rush, and any other remaining options like Nate Robinson or Dominic McGuire will probably have to agree to the veteran league minimum to remain with the Warriors.”

Regardless, I like this move. Back up point was the teams greatest need. The Warriors have shown a lot of creativity rebuilding this roster, they’ll figure out a back up 4.

i thought they’d break out even since NO gets the trade exception instead of GS … basically a swap of Wright for Jack. that puts them right back where they started.. which will allow them to resign Rush still.

im willing to bet ESPN is wrong on this one.

we’ll wait until the facts come, i’m hoping they’re wrong.

You and I both! Jack is about a million more per year than Wright was. This is from TK via twitter:

@timkawakami: NO cap room. Only have mid-level and bi-annual exceptions. RT @mustakrakish89 How much cap room has now GSW?

I think we’ll keep Rush. If everyone is healthy, It’s not unreasonable to expect that this team makes the playoffs.
