Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes Invited to Team USA Minicamp

Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes will participate in Team USA’s minicamp in Las Vegas in July, according to sources. And point guard Stephen Curry is back in the national team mix, too.

The camp this summer is for Team USA officials to get a good look at the promising young players in the NBA. Kyrie Irving, DeMarcus Cousins and Paul George will reportedly participate as well.
Thompson was part of the select team that practiced against the national squad in advance of the 2012 games in London. Barnes, named first-team All-Rookie, shined under the bright lights of the NBA playoffs to emerge as one of the league’s bright young talents.
Curry will not participate in the camp next month but he will show up in Las Vegas to meet with Team USA coaches. He is back in the national team’s pool of players and will be invited next summer to try out for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup (formerly the World Championships) in Spain.
Curry was on the 2010 USA squad that won the gold medal at the World Championships in Turkey. However, he wasn’t selected for the pool of players invited to try out for the London Olympics.

Steph is with the big boys now. Klay could impress if he’s sticking that 3.

Good news. Those invitations are a solid NBA validation of what we know to be GSW’s young core. It’s also great experience for those players. Klay and Curry seemed to benefit from their stints with the national team, and the same should be true for Barnes as well.

It’s an honor but I don’t think Steph is durable enough to be involved with the national team. He had nothing left towards the end of the Spurs’ series.

  • Worst kept secret in the post post season. . .but good news nonetheless. . .

Bad news. Curry’s ankle won’t be 100% for the forseeable future.

Glad Klay’s getting the invite with Harrison, but hoping Myers will make a big splash this summer by moving him. To LA with Bogut for Howard? No.
Klay and Jefferson to Denver for a signed and traded Andre Igoudala. The Nuggets are losing AI anyway, so they might as well get a young up-and-comer in Thompson. Sure they have to take on Jefferson, but he’s in the last year of his contract and I believe they still have their amnesty left (though I could be wrong).
Getting Iguodala here would mean we are a legitimate title contender, IF everyone stays healthy. Find me a better starting five than Curry, Igoudala, Barnes, Lee and Bogut – I dare you!
Keep Landry so we have scoring off the bench, along with BRush, and find a defensive veteran PG to back-up Steph.

The warriors need to get in the lower part of the first round and take Gorgui Dieng, and as long as they dont give up any assets, this would be a great pick.

More like getting those Klay-ups than the 3s.
