Warriors Waive Seth Curry AND Dewayne Dedmond

In what is a mild surprise, the Warriors announced Friday they have waived guard Seth Curry and center Dewayne Dedmon.

Apparently, the Warriors preferred to keep the last roster spot open.

All three were expected to join the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s affiliates in the NBA Development League. There, they will get the playing time they need to develop.

Joe Alexander was also waived. He did not appear in a preseason game due to a tibial stress reaction in his left leg. He was never expected to play but was invited to camp so he could be allocated to the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Curry appeared in six preseason games. He totaled 13 points and 6 assists in 43 minutes.

Dedmon appeared in five preseason games, averaging 10.3 minutes. He totaled 17 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks in his action.

It must be said, the Warriors are hoping Dedmon goes to the D-League. If he plays in the D-League it will be for the Santa Cruz squad. But if another NBA team comes knocking, or he decides to go overseas, he’s free to do that. And with his raw skills, that is possible.

The Warriors roster currently stands at 14 players. Here is a depth chart:

Stephen Curry
Toney Douglas
Nemanja Nedovic
Kent Bazemore
Andre Iguodala
Klay Thompson
David Lee
Harrison Barnes
Draymond Green
Marreese Speights
Big Men
Andrew Bogut
Jermaine O’neal
Festus Ezeli (injured)
Ognjen Kuzmic

Marcus Thompson

  • Don Stewart

With Ezeli out and Barnes??? the starters are gonna play lots of minutes to start the season. I would expect O’Neal to play lots of 2Q and 3Q minutes assuming the dubs want to limit Bogut to abt 30 minutes. Maybe have Douglas play with starters with Curry sliding to 2 so Klay can play minutes with the second unit for scoring and some continuity?

if barnes is injured, i would put green as the sf starter and have klay come off the bench.

wow, that is surprising, i thought dedmon would be the 15th guy, i think he is already ready to play actually.

probably seeing how awful speights and j o’neal are, i wonder if bob myers has an ace up sleeve and going to sign somebody to help us out?

    i sure hope we don’t lose dedmon…

Of what I saw of Dedmon, I thought he’d be on the roster until Ezeli was back. Dedmon kinda reminds me of Ezeli but longer?

  • Richard Gilmore

rather have Dedmon than kuzmic. I feel Warriors making the same mistake as they did with Lin with Dedmon. This year he is an extra but in a year Dedmon could be fighting it out with Ezeli for number 2. Dedmon is a rebounding machine right now with more of a up side on offense than ezeli.
