MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Just in time for the final Warriors-Clippers regular season game, Draymond Green has unveiled a line of “Cool Story, Glenn” shirts in his official online shop.
Green used the phrase numerous times in an interview with KNBR two weeks ago when the player responded to sarcastic comments made by Doc Rivers by referring to the Clippers coach’s given name.
“I approved it,” Green said Friday, the morning after the release of the line of “Cool Story, Glenn” shirts on Athlete Originals that includes three different designs. “A lot of fans kept asking me for it, so the person who runs my store thought that it would be a good idea.
“They sent me the design. I approved.”
“It’s not for a lack of respect,” Green said. “I respect him. It’s fun. Throughout the course of the season, you find things that’s funny. You have to. It’s just fun. It’s no disrespect.”
The tit for tat was touched off by the Clippers’ Dahntay Jones bumping into Green on the court during his nationally televised postgame interview March 8 after the Warriors forward had led his team with 23 points in a 106-98 win at Oracle Arena.
“That was such a violent bump, I’m telling you,” Rivers deadpanned to reporters. “It’s amazing. I told Dahntay, ‘You’ve got to be careful. That was too hard.’ I guess that tough guy in Golden State , I mean, the bump was too hard for him. Clearly, the way he reacted. My goodness. I thought that guy was tough.”
Played the clip of Rivers’ comments during his weekly radio show, Green responded.
“Cool story, bro. Cool story, Glenn. Very cool story, Glenn,” Green said.
“I don’t have no reason to worry about what Glenn has to say…Why would I worry about what Glenn has to say? More power to him.”
The Warriors conclude their current road trip against the Clippers on Tuesday.
