Not so fast…

We told you a few days ago about the West Contra Costa school district’s plan to build a temporary campus for Coronado Elementary School at Kennedy High, while Coronado’s new campus is constructed.

District staff say there isn’t enough space on Coronado’s site to house a temporary campus while the new school is built, and that the project can be completed faster this way.

Now it seems neighbors near Kennedy High School are worried about the extra traffic, construction noise, appearance of the added buildings and the effects the project might have on newly-resurfaced streets nearby.

District officials are hoping to address those concerns at the next facilities subcommittee meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Facilities Operation Center, 1300 Potrero Ave. in Richmond. An agenda will be posted on the district’s website in the coming days.

The Laurel Park Neighborhood Council, whose coverage area includes Kennedy High, also plans to discuss the issue at its next regularly scheduled meeting, 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at Easter Hill United Methodist Church, 3911 Cutting Blvd. in Richmond.

Questions about the project? Call the school district’s facilities department at 510-231-1105.
